Twitter’s large blue bird sign returned to auction in 2025 with an estimate of $40,000 or more. It sold for $34,375 including the buyer’s premium—a different figure from the estimate. The lot was the physical sign once mounted outside Twitter’s San Francisco headquarters, not ownership of the logo itself.
What was the final auction price?
RR Auction estimated the sign at $40,000 or more and reported a realized price of $34,375, including the buyer’s premium. The auction house’s lot listing and its March 25, 2025 auction recap give the sale result. The Associated Press also reported the $34,375 result.
During bidding, a March 17 San Francisco Chronicle report noted a then-current bid of $21,664. That was a snapshot while the auction was underway, not the final price.
What exactly sold?
The lot was an official Twitter bird-logo fascia sign formerly displayed on the exterior of the company’s San Francisco headquarters. RR Auction says it had been mounted on the building’s southeast side, facing Jessie Street. A second large bird sign faced 10th Street.

RR Auction describes the sign as approximately 145 × 105 × 20 inches and 560 pounds; its recap rounds the face dimensions to 12 by 9 feet. The buyer had to arrange and pay for shipping from storage in San Francisco, a substantial practical consideration for an object of this size and weight.
How did the sign return to auction?
According to RR Auction, the sign was acquired in Twitter’s September 2023 rebranding auction. The 2025 sale therefore brought the physical headquarters sign back to market after the company’s transition from Twitter to X and the retirement of the bird from the company’s branding.

RR Auction says the bird was nicknamed “Larry” after Boston Celtics legend Larry Bird. Twitter’s simplified bird mark had been introduced years earlier: in its June 6, 2012 announcement, Creative Director Doug Bowman wrote, “From now on, this bird will be the universally recognizable symbol of Twitter.”
Who bought the sign?
The buyer was not identified in the Associated Press report. The available reporting does not establish where the sign is now, so its purchaser and current location should not be assumed.

An auction estimate is the auction house’s pre-sale valuation, not a promise of what an item will sell for. Here, $40,000+ was RR Auction’s estimate; $34,375 including buyer’s premium was the reported realized price. When comparing this result with another collectible sale, check whether the published figure includes the buyer’s premium and consider provenance, condition, dimensions, and shipping or removal obligations.
