The report’s platform totals show a slight year-over-year decline—but its 2024 figure covers January through November, not the full calendar year.
Who was Twitch’s top streamer in 2024?
StreamElements’ State of the Stream: Year in Review, produced with Rainmaker.gg and summarized by GamesBeat on December 16, 2024, named Kai Cenat the most popular streamer on Twitch for the year. He had also led the report’s ranking in 2023. GamesBeat’s summary does not give a detailed ranking methodology, so “most popular” should be understood as the report’s designation rather than a universal ranking across every analytics provider.
A separate estimate offers a creator-level measure: Stream Hatchet’s Save Point 2024, summarized by GameSquare, credits Kai Cenat with 185 million hours watched in 2024. That figure comes from a different report and methodology; it is not the total viewership figure used in the StreamElements summary. GameSquare’s summary of Stream Hatchet’s findings also says Cenat generated more than 728,000 subscriptions from Mafiathon 2.

It therefore supports a change in who appeared among the leading creators, not a claim that all four ranked ahead of one another in a particular order.
Did Twitch viewership grow or fall in 2024?
GamesBeat’s account of StreamElements and Rainmaker.gg puts Twitch at 18.5 billion hours watched from January through November 2024, compared with 18.9 billion hours for all of 2023. The periods are not equal: the 2024 number is year-to-date through November, while the comparator is presented as a full-year total. The figures suggest lower cumulative viewing in the covered 2024 period, but do not establish a like-for-like full-calendar-year decline.

These totals come from different providers and reporting windows. They are useful as attributed snapshots, but the available summaries do not establish a common methodology for reconciling them into one combined trend line.

Why are top streamers changing platforms?
StreamElements CEO Or Perry described platform diversification as a driver of turnover among leading creators. He pointed to Ninja’s multistreaming and xQc’s use of different platforms for distinct content, and argued that creators can use some services for discovery and others for community building. This is Perry’s interpretation, not proof that diversification alone caused the ranking changes.
Perry also predicted in December 2024 that 2025 would be a significant year for multistreaming as tools became more accessible. That was a forecast made at the time, not evidence that the prediction came true. His comments are quoted in GamesBeat’s coverage.

No. Streams Charts reported that fps_shaka led Twitch by watch time in December 2024, a month in which Kai Cenat stepped back after November’s Mafiathon 2. A monthly leader and a year-end leader answer different questions: fps_shaka’s December result does not conflict with StreamElements naming Cenat the year’s leading creator. The 1.58 billion hours in the Streams Charts report is December’s platform-wide viewing total, not a creator’s total.
