For the week of October 5–11, 2026, the standout TV picks span horror, creature-feature thrills, crime, fantasy, comedy and literary adventure. The list mixes premieres with returning shows; it is an editorial shortlist, not an audience ranking. Streaming catalogs and release schedules can vary by territory, so check your local service listing before watching.
New shows and premieres to watch this week
Carrie — Prime Video, October 7
Mike Flanagan adapts Stephen King’s 1974 debut novel as an eight-episode limited series starring Summer H. Howell as Carrie White, a sheltered teenager facing school bullying and the emergence of telekinetic powers. Tom’s Guide reported that all eight episodes released at 3 a.m. ET on October 7; Axios also listed the series as available on Prime Video. It is the week’s clearest horror pick. Readers interested in the source material can start with Stephen King’s original novel.
Below — Netflix, October 8
This six-episode seaside thriller stars Josh Hartnett as a Newfoundland fisherman trying to protect his family and community from a mysterious sea creature. Netflix’s October guide lists the series for October 8, and Tom’s Guide reports that all six episodes dropped at 3 a.m. ET. Its compact episode count makes it a natural choice for a creature-feature binge.
NCIS: New York — CBS, October 6; Paramount+ next day
LL Cool J returns as Sam Hanna in this new franchise spinoff, teaming with Nick Schaeffer, played by Scott Caan, after a Navy reservist friend is found dead. Tom’s Guide lists the premiere for 9 p.m. ET on CBS on October 6, with next-day availability on Paramount+. Choose this for a weekly procedural rather than a full-season drop.
