Why does Dwight burn Jeremiah?
The finale’s fire recalls Montague’s earlier death by fire, making Jeremiah’s death feel like deliberate payback and a symbolic echo. The parallel supports a reading of the act as poetic revenge; it is an interpretation of the finale’s imagery, not a separate explanation spoken by a character.
What does the ending mean for the other characters?
Margaret’s political opening
Thresher’s invitation gives Margaret the opportunity to enter his administration. That could bring her closer to state power, but the finale establishes the offer—not whether she accepts or how the appointment might affect Dwight.

Dwight and Musso’s uneasy accommodation
The liquor license and Watchmaker information give each man something useful. It is a transaction, not proof of lasting trust or a permanent end to their wider conflicts.
