TRY!, director Oisín Mistéil’s documentary about four Irish teams in Mixed Ability Rugby, was listed for a special screening with a Q&A at Arc Cinema Wexford on 12 October 2026. The listing does not establish that a featured player is from Wexford: the film follows players from teams associated with Cork, Belfast and Dublin. Check the cinema’s live listing for current showtimes and ticket availability.
What is the Wexford screening?
Arc Cinema Wexford listed an event titled “Try! with Q & A” for Monday 12 October 2026, from 18:00 to 20:25. The date has passed, so this listing is not evidence of a current or upcoming screening. The cinema event page is dynamic; consult it directly for any later showings or availability.
The Arc listing gives the event a duration of 145 minutes. That is the duration shown for the full screening event, not the film’s runtime. The Irish Film Institute lists TRY! at 88 minutes and records a Q&A with Mistéil after its 7 October screening.
Does the film follow a Wexford player?
The available descriptions do not identify any of the film’s four named players as being from Wexford. They name Richie Philpott of the Sundays Well Rebels, Maeve Owens of the Ballincollig Trailblazers, Tommy Crawford of the Malone Tornadoes, and Paul Deacon of the DLSP Vikings. The Wexford connection established by the listing is the cinema screening, not a featured player’s hometown.

What does TRY! follow?
Four teams on the way to Pamplona
The film follows the four Irish teams through winter training and their journey to the 2025 International Mixed Ability Rugby Tournament in Pamplona, Spain. Its focus includes preparation, competition, friendship and belonging, as players pursue the ambition of reaching the tournament.
What Mixed Ability Rugby means
Mixed Ability Rugby is full-contact, 15-a-side rugby played by people with and without disabilities. International Mixed Ability Sports says the game follows the standard World Rugby Laws for XV-a-side play rather than a separate set of special rules. Mistéil has described his initial reaction to hearing about the format as: “Are you sure that’s a good idea?!”

Why the film’s personal stories matter
Mistéil’s account of Richie Philpott offers a glimpse of what the team has meant to one player. The director says Philpott told him the Rebels had helped transform his confidence and social life, bringing him friends, a job, a hobby and a physical pursuit. That is Philpott’s reported personal experience, not a measured finding about the effects of the sport or the film.
Mistéil has also written: “To think that as a society we have locked a whole population of people out of this kind of team environment for so long is a terrible shame.” It is the director’s view of inclusion in team sport, rather than the conclusion of a formal study.

The tournament and the wider Irish game
International Mixed Ability Sports reported that the 2025 Pamplona tournament involved more than 1,700 players from 24 countries. Sport for Business described the event as involving 32 teams from 16 countries. These are figures reported by different sources and describe different counts; they should not be treated as interchangeable.
Separately, Sport for Business reported an estimate of more than 1,000 players across seven Irish teams, attributing it to people involved in developing the game. That estimate concerns the Irish movement, not the Pamplona tournament’s participant count.
