What happened at the Trophy Eyes show?
Trophy Eyes played Mohawk Place in Buffalo, New York, on April 30, 2024. Reports said singer John Floreani stage-dived into the crowd and fan Bird Piché sustained a serious spinal injury. That is the reported account of the incident, not a court determination about how it happened or who was responsible. Contemporaneous reporting and coverage of Piché’s account described the incident.
What did Trophy Eyes say?
In a statement on May 3, 2024, the band called the event “a tragic accident” and said: “We elected to immediately shut down the show as John accompanied them to the hospital with their family.” Trophy Eyes said it was “truly heartbroken” and remained in close contact with Piché. These statements describe the band’s response and its view of the event; they do not establish legal responsibility. The statement was reproduced in contemporaneous coverage.
What was reported about Piché’s injury and recovery?
Early coverage described a catastrophic spinal-cord injury that required surgery. In a May 2024 interview, Piché discussed the injury’s seriousness and uncertainty about recovery. That interview coverage and early reporting document what was reported at the time.

In July 2024, Trophy Eyes said Piché had entered rehabilitation and had regained movement in her arms and wrists, as well as feeling in her legs and feet. This was a dated update from the band, not a report of her present medical condition. The July update was reported here.
What was the venue’s policy on stage diving?
Mohawk Place general manager Mike Thor told ThePRP that the venue prohibited crowd surfing and stage diving, displayed signs stating the policy, and would stop a show when stage diving occurred. That account is attributed to the manager; it does not independently establish whether or how the policy was enforced at the moment Piché was injured. ThePRP reported Thor’s comments.
