A set video reported on April 15, 2024 showed Jared Leto in his Ares costume with the helmet off while the film was in production in British Columbia. The clip was a walk-around, not a scene being shot, so it is best read as a behind-the-scenes costume glimpse rather than a trailer, an official first look, or a story excerpt. The film has since been released, and the sections below cover what the clip showed, who Ares is, the release and home-viewing dates, and how the production was made.
What the clip showed
The footage, as described by ComingSoon in its April 15, 2024 report, shows Leto wearing the Ares costume without his helmet and walking around the set in British Columbia. The report states that no scene was being filmed during the recording. That detail matters: the clip shows wardrobe and presence on set, not performance, staging, or story content.
The report is a secondary account of a set video, so the costume details reflect how one entertainment outlet described the footage at the time. Readers should treat it as a dated look at production rather than an official studio release.
What the clip does not show
- It is not a trailer. Official marketing for the film came from Disney on its own schedule.
- It is not a scene in progress. The report says no filming was taking place when the clip was recorded.
- It is not a studio-approved first look. The clip circulated as set footage, and no official announcement accompanied it in the coverage reviewed here.
Who Ares is
Disney describes Ares as a highly sophisticated Program sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission. The studio presents the film as a continuation of the TRON saga, with the central story built on a Program crossing into the physical world. Disney’s framing places the film’s emotional core in identity, humanity, and purpose.

How the film was made
The production choices are the most useful context for understanding why set footage of the costume drew attention. In Disney’s October 9, 2025 feature, Rønning described the Vancouver shoot:

“We shut down downtown Vancouver for six weeks of nights, and then we built the real lightcycles and other vehicles… I think you can really feel it in the film that we went to that extent to try and do as much of it as possible for real.”
Rønning’s account also covers the visual effects workload. He cited 2,000 VFX shots, so the finished film combines practical vehicles built for the street sequence with a large amount of digital work. The practical lightcycles are a notable point for a franchise known for its digital aesthetic, and they explain why the set footage of the costume and the vehicles was of interest to fans.
