The ending offers two possible paths for a continuation: Ares sees images of Quorra, while the mid-credits scene gives Julian Dillinger a visual connection to Sark. Neither tease confirms that a fourth Tron film has been approved.
What happens at the end of Tron: Ares?
In the film’s final moments, Ares looks at images of Quorra, the character Olivia Wilde played in Tron: Legacy. The image points toward a possible connection between the two, but the film does not show them meeting or explain what happened to Quorra after Legacy. The Los Angeles Times’ explanation of the ending notes the parallel: both characters originated in the Grid and made it into the real world.
That echo fits Ares’s own story. Disney describes him as a Program sent from the digital world into the real one, in a story concerned with identity, humanity and purpose. Disney’s official film page frames the film around humanity’s first encounter with AI beings. Director Joachim Rønning similarly described Ares as wanting to become real and having to learn what being human means. Rønning’s D23 interview gives the thematic context for the Quorra image: it may invite a story about two Grid-born beings navigating human reality, without promising that story will happen.
What does the mid-credits scene mean?
Julian escapes into Dillinger Corp.’s Grid before the mid-credits scene. There, he surveys the wreckage, finds his identity disc and activates it. As his digital suit begins to form, its silhouette evokes Sark, the antagonist from the 1982 Tron. Sark was a Program created by Julian’s grandfather, Edward Dillinger; both characters were played by David Warner.
#1 Best Overall
- Get ready for the electrifying action and adventure of “Tron: Ares.” When a highly sophisticated Program named Ares is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, it marks humankind’s first encounter with A.I. beings. Warning: Some flashing-lights scenes in this film may affect photosensitive viewers.
The callback makes Julian a plausible successor to his grandfather’s villainous legacy, or a potential antagonist in another film. It does not establish that Julian literally becomes Sark, that Sark himself has returned, or what a sequel’s story would be.
Rønning described the Sark image as “just like hinting [at] something to come” and called Julian “a good starting point for that continuation of that character.” He also made the possibility conditional on enough people seeing Ares, saying, “if enough people come watch it…” GamesRadar+ published the interview on October 10, 2025. The director’s interest in continuing the story is not an announcement that a film has been greenlit.

How do the two sequel hooks compare?
| Tease | Where it appears | What it suggests | What it does not confirm |
|---|---|---|---|
| Julian and Sark | Mid-credits scene | A direct visual callback that could position Julian as a future villain or heir to his grandfather’s legacy. | That Julian becomes Sark, that Sark literally returns, or that a specific sequel plot is planned. |
| Ares and Quorra | Main ending | A possible character connection between two beings who crossed from the Grid into the real world. | That they meet, or that Quorra’s story after Tron: Legacy is already defined. |
Does the ending confirm Tron 4?
No. The ending and mid-credits scene leave room for another film, and Rønning has expressed interest in continuing with Julian and the Sark connection. But his comments were conditional on audience turnout, not a confirmation of a greenlight. The two teases point in different directions—a potential Julian-led conflict and a possible Ares–Quorra character story—without establishing that either will become the plot of a fourth film.
