Travis Scott’s brown Batman costume became a Halloween 2020 meme because its unusual color stood out against Batman’s familiar dark look. Jokes and edits spread across social platforms, and his Instagram page was reported closed the next day amid the mockery. The available coverage documents reactions from online users and meme accounts—not verified comments from celebrities, or an explanation from Scott for the costume or the account’s deletion.
What happened on Halloween 2020
On October 31, 2020, Scott posted photographs and a video of himself approaching in a brown Batman costume on Instagram, according to Know Your Meme’s account. The original post is no longer available.
The costume’s brown color became the focus of the response. Batman is usually associated with a dark palette, so the unexpected version gave people an easy visual contrast to joke about. Know Your Meme’s November 2 collection put it this way: “Batman wears a lot of things–hang gliders, scuba gear, a chestplate with nipples–but he usually doesn’t wear a brown costume.”
Why the costume became a meme
Posts and edits compared Scott’s look to the Flea from ¡Mucha Lucha! and Hopper from A Bug’s Life. A contemporaneous Spanish-language report by Televisa Canal 5 also recorded cockroach comparisons and collected humorous reactions. These examples show how the costume was mocked online; they do not establish that everyone disliked it.
