The best-documented controversies involving Travis Scott center on concert safety: two earlier disorderly-conduct cases, crowd incidents at Astroworld in 2019 and 2021, and a separate 2024 arrest in Miami Beach. The available reporting supports a shorter, carefully qualified timeline—not ten distinct episodes of equal evidentiary weight. Here is what is established, what happened afterward, and what the legal outcomes do and do not mean.
A documented timeline of the controversies
| Date and place | Reported incident | Known outcome or qualification |
|---|---|---|
| August 1, 2015 — Lollapalooza, Chicago | ABC News reported that Scott urged fans to jump barriers. | He pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and paid a fine, according to ABC News. |
| 2017 — Walmart Music Pavilion, Rogers, Arkansas | ABC News reported that Scott prompted fans to breach barricades and overrun security. | He was arrested and later pleaded guilty to misdemeanor disorderly conduct and paid a fine, ABC News reported. |
| November 9, 2019 — Astroworld Festival, Houston | Fans breached barricades; three people were injured and taken to hospital, ABC News reported, citing its Houston station. | ABC News said nearly 100 additional security personnel were added for the 2021 festival. The earlier breach is relevant context, but by itself does not establish that the later crowd surge was predictable. |
| November 5, 2021 — Astroworld Festival, Houston | Ten people died in a crowd surge during Scott’s performance. ABC News reported that he continued performing amid medical emergencies. | The festival’s aftermath included a criminal grand jury decision in 2023 and continuing civil litigation in 2024; those proceedings had different standards and outcomes. |
| June 2024 — Miami Beach, Florida | Police arrested Scott on misdemeanor trespassing and public-intoxication charges after officers said he was yelling at people at a marina and disobeyed orders to leave, the Associated Press reported. | His attorney called the detention a misunderstanding and said there was no physical altercation. An arrest and charges are allegations, not a finding of guilt; the AP report does not establish the later disposition. |
What happened during the 2021 Astroworld performance?
On November 5, 2021, a crowd surge at the Houston festival killed ten people. ABC News reported that around 50,000 people were at the event and that multiple medical emergencies occurred while Scott was performing.
A July 2023 account by The Texas Tribune, based on the Houston police report, said the first reported shouts of “Stop the show” came eleven minutes into Scott’s set and that the performance ended about an hour later. The Tribune also recounted Scott’s statement to detectives: he said he first noticed a problem after seeing a fan waving while he was on an elevated platform. The report said he called for space for medical personnel and later questioned an ambulance. These are details reported from the police file and Scott’s account; they do not, on their own, establish precisely what he understood at each moment.
The 2019 Astroworld barricade breach preceded the fatal 2021 surge, and additional security personnel were added for the later festival, ABC News reported. That sequence is important context, but it should not be turned into a claim that the earlier incident proved the later tragedy would occur.

How did Scott respond, and what commercial fallout followed?
ABC News reported that Scott said he was “absolutely devastated,” announced full ticket refunds and said he would not perform at Day N Vegas that weekend. The Los Angeles Times reported that he also offered memorial support and mental-health assistance. Those reported actions do not establish how affected attendees viewed his response or settle criticism of it.
Axios reported that Nike postponed the planned Air Max 1 x Cactus Jack release after the Astroworld deaths, alongside changes to other promotions and collaborations. That was commercial fallout from the tragedy, not a separate concert incident.

What did the Astroworld criminal and civil proceedings decide?
The criminal grand jury decision
In June 2023, a Harris County grand jury declined to indict Scott and others. The Washington Post reported that District Attorney Kim Ogg said the grand jury found no crime and no single individual criminally responsible. Ogg said, “But a tragedy isn’t always a crime, and not every death is a homicide.” A decision not to indict is not a trial verdict; it does not establish civil liability.
The civil lawsuits
In April 2024, State District Judge Kristen Hawkins declined to dismiss hundreds of Astroworld lawsuits against Scott and his touring and production company, the Associated Press reported. The ruling allowed the civil claims to remain in the case; it was not a finding that Scott or the company was liable.

Why was Travis Scott arrested in Miami Beach?
The Associated Press reported that Miami Beach police arrested Scott in June 2024 on misdemeanor trespassing and public-intoxication charges. Police said he was yelling at people at a marina and disobeyed orders to leave. His attorney, Bradford Cohen, described the detention as a misunderstanding and said there was no physical altercation. The arrest report is not a conviction, and the AP account does not establish how the charges were ultimately resolved.

The reported record supports several distinct concert-safety incidents, the separate Miami Beach arrest, and important developments after Astroworld. But developments such as refunds, a postponed product release, a grand jury decision and civil litigation are consequences or legal proceedings—not additional controversies of the same kind. Treating them as separate entries to reach ten would blur the difference between an incident, its aftermath and an allegation.
