The warning is Kelce’s own account. No Secret Service statement confirming it has been reported.
What happened at the White House
On May 31, 2024, President Joe Biden hosted the Chiefs at the White House to celebrate their Super Bowl LVIII championship. During the ceremony Biden invited tight end Travis Kelce to speak. The Associated Press reported the event and the exchange that followed.
Kelce opened with “My fellow Americans,” joked that he had been told he would get tased if he came to the podium, and then returned to his place. His remarks were brief and light in tone.
Kelce’s account of the warning
On the June 5 episode of his podcast New Heights, Kelce said Secret Service members had told him not to go up to the podium. He described their reaction to his second White House visit in plain terms: they “weren’t too happy” with him. The line as it appears in the episode transcript is:

“The secret service that’s all over the White House. They weren’t too happy with me.”
Kelce tied that reaction to his 2023 visit with the Chiefs. He said he had an expired ID on that trip and briefly moved toward the podium, and that this is why agents were watching him more closely the following year. He said he brought his passport in 2024. These are his recollections, as captured in the podcast and in contemporary coverage, not findings from an outside review.

Kelce also said he received a Secret Service pin and a challenge coin during the visit. He presented this as part of the same story and did not describe it as a formal reprimand.
What is and is not established
Readers often see the warning reported as though it were an official directive. The available reporting does not support that. The table below separates the three layers of the story.

Kelce also said he had no idea Biden would invite him to speak, and that the warning was on his mind while he was at the podium. That detail explains why he framed his remarks around the joke, and it is also part of his own telling rather than a verified account of what happened on the stage.
Why the story draws attention
The episode is comic in tone, and Kelce’s account works as a self-deprecating anecdote about a moment that could have gone differently. Coverage of the remark has focused on the Secret Service angle because it is the most unusual part of the story. A reader looking for an authoritative statement from the agency about Kelce specifically will not find one in the reporting available so far. Any further claims about the agency’s response should be treated as speculation until the Secret Service or the Chiefs say more on the record.

How to cite the story accurately
- Use “Kelce said” or “Kelce recalled” for the warning, the 2023 ID issue, and the pin and coin.
- Attribute the May 31, 2024, date and Biden’s invitation to the Associated Press report.
- Name the June 5 episode of New Heights as the source of the Secret Service remark, and avoid describing it as an agency statement.
The quote above is accurate to the transcript. Because the podcast is a comedy show, the wording should be presented as Kelce’s recollection rather than a documented sequence of events.
