Tori Amos’s 2025 children’s picture book Tori and the Muses has a nine-song musical companion, The Music of Tori and the Muses. The book follows a young Tori whose struggle to play what she wants becomes a story about creative independence, inspiration and learning what might move someone else.
What is Tori and the Muses about?
In the story, young Tori is unhappy when her father makes her rehearse for a recital. Eleven Muses inspire her to make music on her own terms. A floating pink piano then helps her look beyond her own wishes and find inspiration for others, including her father. The book uses that shift to connect creative freedom with empathy: making what feels true to you can also become a way to reach someone else.

Amos said she wanted to offer young readers another way to find “inspiration and magic” around them. In a separate interview, she described the Muses as a source of creative space without fear of judgment.
How is the album connected to the book?
Publishers Weekly reported that The Music of Tori and the Muses was released alongside the book on March 4, 2025, as a nine-song musical companion. Amos said the project was not initially a fully formed book-and-album package: her husband suggested adding music, after which she brought in her music team and the songs began to emerge.

She described the creative process as “looking at the illustrations, going back to the story, and then expanding that with the music.” That makes the album an extension of the book’s world, rather than an unrelated release. Read the Publishers Weekly interview.
Is it a soundtrack, and how many songs does it have?
Publishers Weekly describes the nine-song release as a musical companion to the book. Amos’s official site identifies the soundtrack as associated with the 2025 book and provides a listening link, along with lyrics and credits. These sources establish digital listening access, but do not confirm a CD or vinyl edition.
