If Spotify keeps returning you to the login screen, first determine whether it is a real logout, an app crash, stopped playback, or a device losing authorization. Check @SpotifyStatus, test Spotify on another device or the web player, then troubleshoot the affected device. Reinstalling, resetting your password, or buying Premium is not automatically the right fix.
What “Spotify keeps kicking me out” means
The phrase can describe several different problems:
| # | Preview | Product | Price | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 |
|
Google Play gift code | $15.00 | Buy on Amazon |
| 2 |
|
Google Play gift code | $50.00 | Buy on Amazon |
| 3 |
|
$300 Apple Gift Card—Email Delivery | $300.00 | Buy on Amazon |
| 4 |
|
Visa Virtual eGift Card | $28.95 | Buy on Amazon |
| 5 |
|
Google Play Physical Gift Card | $50.00 | Buy on Amazon |
| What you see | Likely area to investigate | First action |
|---|---|---|
| Spotify repeatedly shows the login screen | Session, account security, app data, or service issue | Check service status, then test another device |
| The app closes or returns to the home screen | App crash, storage, memory, or compatibility | Update, restart, and clear the cache |
| Music stops but you remain logged in | Network, firewall, device, or playback issue | Try another network or the web player |
| Only a browser logs out | Cookies, extensions, or privacy settings | Test a private window |
| Every device is logged out | Account security, authorization, outage, or account-specific bug | Reset the password and remove unfamiliar access |
| A TV, console, speaker, or car disconnects | Partner-device authorization | Remove and reconnect the device separately |
This distinction matters. Clearing a cache may help one damaged app installation, but it will not remove an unauthorized account session. Likewise, a password reset is unnecessary if Spotify merely crashes because the device is low on storage.
Before fixing anything: check whether Spotify is down
Check Spotify’s official status account, @SpotifyStatus, and the Spotify Community Ongoing Issues board. Also try the web player and another device.

A confirmed service incident can affect authentication or playback, and changing passwords or reinstalling repeatedly will not repair a server-side problem. If no matching incident is listed, continue with the steps below.
Find out whether it is one device or the whole account
Test Spotify in as many of these ways as practical:
- The normal mobile or desktop app
- The Spotify web player
- A private or incognito browser window
- A different phone, tablet, or computer
- Cellular data instead of Wi-Fi, or another Wi-Fi network
If only one device fails, focus on local app data, operating-system compatibility, storage, browser settings, firewall rules, or the device itself. If every device fails, investigate account security, connected services, credentials, and Spotify’s service status first.
Top 10 ways to fix Spotify kicking you out
1. Check Spotify’s service status
Start with @SpotifyStatus and the Ongoing Issues board. Search for reports matching your symptom and device.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIf Spotify has a confirmed incident, wait for the service to recover before making major account changes. If there is no relevant incident, do not wait indefinitely: move to device and account troubleshooting.
2. Force-close Spotify and restart the device
- Close Spotify completely rather than leaving it suspended.
- Restart your phone, tablet, computer, TV, or console.
- Open Spotify and sign in again if necessary.
- Play music for several minutes to check whether the session remains active.
Spotify lists restarting the app among its initial troubleshooting steps. This can clear a temporary process, memory, or session failure without deleting downloads. It is not a permanent solution if another device or security system is invalidating the session.
3. Update Spotify and the operating system
Install Spotify’s current version from the official app store or official desktop distribution channel. Then install pending updates for Android, iOS/iPadOS, Windows, macOS, your TV, or your console.
Restart the device after updating and test Spotify again. Older app builds and operating systems can develop compatibility or authentication problems as the service changes. Avoid relying on a printed “latest version” number because supported versions change by platform and date.

4. Clear Spotify’s cache
Cache clearing is most useful when the problem is limited to one device and Spotify also freezes, loads incorrectly, crashes, or began failing after an update.
- Android: Open Settings → Apps → Spotify → Storage → Clear cache. Labels vary by manufacturer and Android version.
- Spotify settings: Use the app’s storage or cache option if it is available in your current build.
- Desktop or browser: Clear Spotify-related cache and cookies, or test in a private window before deleting all browser data.
Clearing cache is different from clearing all app data. It normally does not delete playlists or account content, but it will not fix an account compromise or remove an authorized third-party service.
5. Clear app data or perform a clean reinstall
Use this step when updating, restarting, and clearing the cache have not helped. A clean reinstall can repair corrupted local files, but it is not guaranteed to fix an account-wide logout.
Android
- Open Settings → Apps → Spotify → Storage.
- Choose Clear data or Clear storage, if available.
- Uninstall Spotify.
- Restart the device.
- Install Spotify again from Google Play.
- Sign in and test it before reconnecting optional integrations.
iPhone or iPad
- Remove Spotify from the device.
- Restart the device.
- Reinstall Spotify from the App Store.
- Sign in again and test playback.
Windows or Mac
- Quit Spotify completely.
- Uninstall the app.
- Restart the computer.
- Reinstall it through Spotify’s current official download channel or the operating system’s official store.
- Sign in and test the account.
Important: Reinstalling removes offline music and podcast downloads. You will need to download them again. Menu names also differ between operating systems, manufacturers, and installation methods.
6. Sign out everywhere, then sign in on one device
This is appropriate if you use Spotify on many devices, an old phone or hotel TV may still be connected, or the account appears to switch devices unexpectedly.
- Open your Spotify account page.
- Under Security and privacy, select Sign out everywhere.
- Wait before signing back in on multiple devices.
- Sign in first on the device you trust and are troubleshooting.
- Add other devices one at a time.
Spotify says the action can take up to one hour to take effect everywhere. If an old session remains briefly, that delay does not necessarily mean the action failed.
Partner-device exception: Signing out everywhere does not include every speaker, game console, or TV. Those connections must be removed separately from the account’s apps or connected-services area.
7. Remove unfamiliar third-party apps and partner devices
Review connected services if the issue affects multiple devices, you see unexpected playback or playlist changes, or you use an unofficial client, smart speaker, console, automation tool, or other integration.

- Open your Spotify account page.
- Go to Manage apps.
- Remove access from unfamiliar or unnecessary third-party apps.
- Remove partner-device access separately where applicable.
- Test Spotify using only the official app.
- Reconnect trusted services individually.
Spotify recommends removing third-party access when an account may be compromised. That does not prove every connected app causes logouts; the purpose is to isolate the account and remove access you do not recognize.
8. Reset the password if there are security warning signs
Do not assume one isolated logout means your account was hacked. Take security action if you notice an unfamiliar email-address change, altered playlists, music playing without your control, a changed subscription, an unrecognized login email, an unfamiliar Facebook connection, or a password that no longer works.
- Reset the Spotify password.
- Open the reset link in a private or incognito window.
- Use a strong password that is not used on another service.
- Change the password for the associated email or sign-in provider if necessary.
- Sign out everywhere.
- Remove third-party and partner-device access.
- Reconnect only trusted services.
If you reused the same password elsewhere, change it there too. Never share passwords, reset codes, authentication links, or full payment-card details with unofficial support accounts.
9. Test the network, VPN, firewall, browser, and storage
- Switch from Wi-Fi to cellular data, or try a different Wi-Fi network.
- Temporarily test without a VPN or proxy.
- On a computer, check whether a firewall or security tool is blocking Spotify.
- Open the web player in a private window.
- Disable browser extensions one at a time, especially cookie-, privacy-, and script-blocking extensions.
- Make sure the device has enough free storage and memory.
- On Android, test without the SD card if Spotify behaves abnormally.
If Spotify logs out only after you close a browser, inspect whether the browser automatically deletes cookies or site data. Allow Spotify cookies and site storage, then try another supported browser.

Device-specific troubleshooting paths
Android phone or tablet
Restart the device, update Android and Spotify, clear Spotify’s cache, and check available storage. If necessary, clear app data and reinstall. If the problem continues, test cellular data and remove the SD card temporarily. Exact Settings labels vary by manufacturer.
iPhone or iPad
Update iOS or iPadOS and Spotify, restart the device, then remove and reinstall Spotify if local app data appears corrupted. Test another network before treating the issue as an account problem.

Windows or Mac
Update the operating system and Spotify, check firewall or security software, and confirm adequate storage. Test the web player in a private browser window. If the web player works but the desktop app does not, a clean desktop reinstall is more relevant than a password reset.
Web player
Open Spotify in a private window. If that works, disable extensions and review cookie settings. Stop the browser from automatically deleting Spotify site data, then try another supported browser.
TVs, consoles, speakers, and car systems
Treat a single affected partner device as an authorization or device-software problem. Remove its access from Spotify’s account or connected-services area, restart the device, update its Spotify app or firmware, and reconnect it using the official integration. Confirm first that Spotify still works on a phone or the web player.

Spotify works at home but not abroad
Spotify says users who spend more than 14 days abroad may need to update account settings before playback resumes. This is not a universal explanation for every logout and should not be treated as a general account-security diagnosis.

Premium is not a repair
There is no evidence that upgrading to Premium fixes corrupted app data, browser cookies, network blocking, account compromise, device incompatibility, or a Spotify-side outage. Premium may be worthwhile for its listening features, but it is not a troubleshooting product.
The shortest path based on your symptom
- One phone or tablet: Restart, update, clear cache, reinstall, then test another network.
- Every device: Check status, reset the password, sign out everywhere, remove connected access, and contact Support if the problem continues.
- Only a browser: Test private mode, disable extensions, allow cookies, and try another browser.
- Only a TV, console, speaker, or car: Remove partner-device access separately, update the device, and reconnect it.
- The app crashes instead of logging out: Focus on updates, storage, cache, and reinstalling before changing account credentials.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does Spotify log me out every few minutes?
Repeated logouts across several devices can indicate an account-session or authorization problem. Reset the password, sign out everywhere, remove unfamiliar connected apps, and contact Spotify Support if the issue continues.
Does clearing the cache delete my playlists?
Clearing cache normally does not delete playlists or account content. Clearing app data or reinstalling is more extensive and removes local settings and offline downloads.

Will reinstalling Spotify delete downloaded songs?
Yes. Offline music and podcasts must be downloaded again after reinstalling.
Does Spotify Premium prevent logouts?
No. Premium is not a general fix for account security, app corruption, browser settings, network problems, or outages.
Why does Spotify log out only in Chrome or Safari?
Browser cookies, automatic site-data deletion, extensions, or privacy settings may be clearing the Spotify session. Test a private window, allow Spotify site storage, and try another browser.
How do I remove a TV or console from Spotify?
Remove the partner device from Spotify’s account or connected-services area. Signing out everywhere does not necessarily remove TVs, consoles, or speakers.
How long does Sign out everywhere take?
Spotify says it can take up to one hour to take effect everywhere.
Should I use a VPN or cleaner app?
No paid cleaner or VPN is required. Test without a VPN if network routing may be involved, but do not buy one as a general Spotify repair.
Why does Spotify work on my phone but not my computer?
That pattern points more strongly to the computer’s app, browser, firewall, storage, or network than to the account. Update the computer, test the web player privately, and check firewall settings.
