Instagram’s own account was the most-followed Instagram profile in the January 2025 snapshot, with 685.8 million followers. Cristiano Ronaldo led individual accounts at 648.3 million, followed by Lionel Messi at 505 million. The ranking below uses Search Engine Land’s January 2025 figures; follower totals change, so it is a dated snapshot rather than a live count.

Its display places Jenner above Johnson even though the counts show Johnson ahead by 0.5 million; the table here orders those two by the reported numbers. Who had the most Instagram followers in 2025?
In this January snapshot, Instagram itself ranked first overall. Among people, Cristiano Ronaldo was first, with Lionel Messi third overall behind the platform account. Instagram’s profile counts in the ranking, so the answer depends on whether “account” means any profile or a person: Instagram was the top account, and Ronaldo was the top individual.

Why do 2025 Instagram rankings show different counts?
A year label is not a measurement date. A separate list published by ProTunes One on May 19, 2025 gives different totals: Instagram 687 million, Ronaldo 652 million, Messi 505 million, Selena Gomez 421 million, Johnson 394 million, Jenner 393 million, Ariana Grande 376 million, Kim Kardashian 357 million, Beyoncé 311 million, and Khloé Kardashian 303 million. Those are a later-in-2025 set, not a correction to the January figures; the counts can move over time. View ProTunes One’s May 2025 list.
For a useful comparison, check the snapshot date, whether Instagram’s own profile is included, and the reported count for each account. Both lists include Instagram, which is why Ronaldo is the leading person but not the leading account overall.
