What Tony Todd was known for
Todd’s signature role was Daniel Robitaille, the supernatural figure known as Candyman, in Bernard Rose’s 1992 film. The story draws on an urban legend: Candyman is summoned by saying his name five times before a mirror. Todd gave the character a commanding presence and a tragic dimension that helped make the role central to his career.
