There was no official “best dressed” award at the 78th Annual Tony Awards, held June 8, 2025. The red carpet was a stage for competing ideas of occasionwear: theatrical silhouettes, couture detail, polished tailoring and outfits with a story behind them. Vogue and The Washington Post made different editorial selections, so the looks below are a guide to notable choices—not a single objective ranking.
Who stood out on the 2025 Tony Awards red carpet?
The Tony Awards’ official announcement named Rockefeller Center as the home of the ceremony’s red carpet and events. Vogue’s best-dressed selection and The Washington Post’s look-by-look commentary each spotlighted different attendees, illustrating how much these judgments depend on taste and on what a publication values in an outfit.
Vogue’s picks include performers and guests whose looks ranged from sculptural couture to distinctive menswear. The Washington Post drew attention to theatrical styling and a historical reference. The following selections use those outlets’ descriptions and credits rather than treating “best dressed” as an official result.
Looks Vogue selected
| Star | Designer credit | What makes the look notable |

| Nicole Scherzinger | Rodarte, by Kate Mulleavy and Laura Mulleavy | A designer look included in Vogue’s selection. |
| Cynthia Erivo | Schiaparelli | The Washington Post described her first of several host looks as sculptural, with a champagne-colored, jewel-encrusted top. |
| Sarah Paulson | Schiaparelli Haute Couture | A couture look in Vogue’s selection. |

A theatrical choice beyond Vogue’s list
The Washington Post highlighted Natalie Venetia Belcon’s feathers, cape and bouffant as theatrical choices suited to the Tonys. The paper wrote: “It’s hard to imagine a more rewarding place for theatrical people to wear theatrical clothes than the Tony Awards — and Belcon obviously got the memo.” That is the Post’s editorial response to her look, not a quotation from Belcon.

What did the stars wear, and how can the looks be compared?
These outfits make a useful comparison through a handful of fashion choices rather than a scorecard. Some lean into performance and silhouette; others stand out through color, material, tailoring or a reference that rewards a closer look.
- Theatricality and silhouette: Belcon’s feathers, cape and bouffant make a deliberately stage-ready impression. Erivo’s sculptural top also gives her first host look a strong shape.
- Color and material: Francis’s muted “deep raisin” sueded linen offers a quieter kind of distinction, with smoking slippers and bare ankles completing the styling.
- Story and reference: Escola’s custom Wiederhoeft outfit was described by The Washington Post as paying tribute to Bernadette Peters’s earlier gown, connecting a red-carpet look to Tony Awards history.
- Designer attribution: Vogue’s credits identify the fashion houses or designers behind its selected looks; CFDA separately corroborates Wiederhoeft for Escola and Rodarte for Scherzinger.
These are editorial ways to read the outfits, not standardized fashion criteria. A reader who prizes theatrical effect may favor a different look from someone drawn to tailoring or couture technique.

Who designed the outfits at the 2025 Tonys?
Vogue credited the designers listed above in its best-dressed coverage. CFDA’s recap adds another notable credit: Darren Criss wore Christian Siriano for his first Tony win. Those credits identify the designers reported by the publications; they do not establish that the same garments are currently available to buy.
For a broader sense of the evening’s fashion, Vogue’s full gallery documents more attendees than its best-dressed selection. Its slideshow is a curated set of favorites, while the gallery gives a wider view of the red carpet.
