- Jack O’Brien and George C. Wolfe received Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre honors. Abe Jacob, Alex Edelman and Nikiya Mathis received Special Tony Awards; Billy Porter received the Isabelle Stevenson Tony Award.

What were the performance highlights?
The ceremony brought nominated productions to the stage rather than treating the performances as a separate concert. The official event page lists numbers from Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club, Hell’s Kitchen, Illinoise, Merrily We Roll Along, Suffs, The Outsiders, The Who’s Tommy, Water for Elephants and Stereophonic. Its program also records a tribute to Chita Rivera and an In Memoriam performed by Nicole Scherzinger.
The announced performers included Gayle Rankin and Eddie Redmayne from Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club; Alicia Keys’ music featured in the Hell’s Kitchen number, with Shoshana Bean, Brandon Victor Dixon, Kecia Lewis and Maleah Joi Moon among its performers. Jonathan Groff, Lindsay Mendez and Daniel Radcliffe represented Merrily We Roll Along; Nikki M. James and Shaina Taub performed from Suffs; Joshua Boone, Brody Grant and Sky Lakota-Lynch appeared for The Outsiders. Time’s recap highlighted Alicia Keys bringing Jay-Z onstage for “Empire State of Mind,” the Merrily We Roll Along trio performing “Old Friends,” a dance number from the Illinoise company, and Redmayne and Rankin leading Cabaret’s “Wilkommen.” These are reported highlights, not an official ranking of the night’s performances.
