Why is it called a 30-year partnership?
The time span points to the 1994 release of Forrest Gump and the 2024 release of Here. Paramount’s official Forrest Gump page credits Hanks and Zemeckis. Sony presents Here as a reunion of the director, writer and stars of Forrest Gump, connecting Hanks and Zemeckis with screenwriter Eric Roth and co-star Robin Wright as well. That context supports describing the films as a reunion across three decades; it does not establish an exclusive contract or a formal 30-year partnership.

Why does Here put the partnership’s legacy in question?
Its fixed-camera structure is a conspicuous formal choice: rather than follow characters through changing locations, the film keeps its viewpoint tied to one place as the people and eras change. The Associated Press review also discusses the film’s de-aging effects and its central characters, Richard and Margaret, played by Hanks and Wright. These choices make the film an ambitious experiment, but ambition alone does not decide whether it works.
The useful test is whether the formal approach supports the emotional story. A fixed view could make the passage of generations and the persistence of a place feel connected; it could also make the story feel constrained if that perspective limits the characters’ emotional impact. Can one movie determine a 30-year legacy?
Not as a matter of fact. The claim that Here “will determine” the legacy is an opinionated framing used in a ScreenRant headline published October 8, 2024, rather than a measurable outcome. The ScreenRant headline supplies that framing; the available record does not establish that a single film can settle how the collaborators’ body of work will be remembered.
A more defensible critical question is whether Here adds a meaningful new chapter to the team’s work or is judged mainly against the achievement and reputation of Forrest Gump. The credits and contrasting narrative designs are clear; the comparative judgment depends on how viewers and critics respond to the film’s technique and emotional effect.
