Entertainment reports said DJ D-Nice shared video of the moment and that the Academy’s social account also posted video; those reports are the basis for accounts of the clips.

The Academy defines its Honorary Award as an Oscar statuette given “to honor extraordinary distinction in lifetime achievement, exceptional contributions to the state of motion picture arts and sciences in any discipline, or for outstanding service to the Academy.” In its announcement, the Academy described Allen as a choreographer, actor, and producer, and said she had choreographed the Academy Awards ceremony seven times. It listed Cruise’s acting nominations for Born on the Fourth of July, Jerry Maguire, and Magnolia, as well as his Best Picture nomination as a producer of Top Gun: Maverick.
Academy President Janet Yang said in the June announcement: “Tom Cruise’s incredible commitment to our filmmaking community, to the theatrical experience, and to the stunts community has inspired us all.”
