Tom Brady has three older sisters: Maureen, Julie, and Nancy Brady. He is the youngest of four children and the only son of Tom Brady Sr. and Galynn Brady. All three sisters were involved in competitive college athletics, although Maureen is by far the best documented publicly because of her standout softball career at Fresno State.

The family’s athletic background helps explain the competitive environment in which Brady grew up, but the available evidence does not support turning his sisters into a simplistic explanation for his professional success. Here is what is reliably known about each sister—and what remains private or unverified.

Who are Tom Brady’s sisters?

Tom Brady’s older sisters are Maureen Brady, Julie Brady, and Nancy Brady. Brady has identified all three in his own writing, and the New England Patriots’ official biography confirms the family relationship, including that Maureen attended Junipero Serra High School with him.

The siblings grew up in a sports-oriented household. Contemporary reporting describes all three sisters as collegiate athletes, while Brady has recalled that they were intensely competitive and helped create a demanding athletic environment at home. Their public profiles, however, are not equally documented. Maureen has an extensive official college-athletics record; Julie is publicly associated with soccer and former Boston Red Sox infielder Kevin Youkilis; and relatively little authoritative information is available about Nancy’s later life.

Maureen Brady: Fresno State softball standout

Maureen is Tom Brady’s oldest sister and the sibling with the clearest publicly documented athletic résumé. She was a right-handed softball pitcher at Fresno State from 1992 through 1995 and became one of the program’s most accomplished players.

According to Fresno State’s program records, Maureen was a 1994 All-American, a two-time All-West selection, and a two-time all-WAC honoree. She was also named Fresno State’s 1994 Female Athlete of the Year. In 1994, she led the nation in victories with 36 wins.

Fresno State records credit Maureen with 80 career wins and 94 complete games, placing her among the prominent pitchers in the university’s historical record book. Because historical totals can vary depending on the record-book edition or statistical cutoff, those figures are best attributed to Fresno State’s records rather than presented as newly compiled statistics.

Maureen also attended Junipero Serra High School, where she was inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame before her younger brother. The Patriots’ biography identifies her as an important early athletic figure in Brady’s family.

Maureen Brady and Maya Brady

Maureen is the mother of softball player Maya Brady, Tom Brady’s niece. UCLA’s official player materials identify Maureen as Maya’s mother and Tom Brady and Kevin Youkilis as Maya’s uncles. Maya developed her own prominent softball career at UCLA, separate from her mother’s accomplishments at Fresno State.

The UCLA record materials and reporting from the Los Angeles Times describe Maureen as a major influence on Maya’s development. The Times reported that Maureen raised Maya and her younger sister, Hannah, as a single mother while working as a nurse.

Maya’s later professional career provides an additional connection between the Brady family and elite softball. The Athletes Unlimited Softball League’s official player page identifies Maya as a professional utility player and states that she was selected by an expansion team in the first round of the league’s 2026 expansion draft. That is context about Maya’s career—not evidence about Maureen’s current employment or private life.

Julie Brady: Tom Brady’s sister and Kevin Youkilis’s wife

Julie Brady is another of Tom’s older sisters. Public reporting describes her as a former soccer player at Saint Mary’s. The Los Angeles Times has referred to Julie as the youngest of the Brady sisters.

Detailed official records establishing Julie’s position, statistics, or specific collegiate honors were not located in the available research. It is therefore more accurate to describe her simply as a former collegiate soccer player than to attach unsupported performance claims to her career.

Julie married former Boston Red Sox infielder Kevin Youkilis in 2012. The NFL’s report on their engagement identified Julie as Brady’s sister. Through the marriage, Youkilis became Tom Brady’s brother-in-law, linking the Brady family to another prominent professional baseball career.

Some reporting has also discussed Julie’s children, but those details concern private family members and are not necessary to answer who Tom Brady’s sisters are. They should not be expanded beyond well-sourced, editorially relevant references.

Nancy Brady: one of Tom’s three older sisters

Nancy Brady is Tom’s third older sister. Brady named Maureen, Julie, and Nancy together in a 1994 high-school essay that the Patriots later published, and other family coverage consistently identifies Nancy as one of the three Brady sisters.

Available reporting describes Nancy as a collegiate softball athlete. However, the authoritative sources available for this article do not establish her college, position, statistics, professional career, or current personal circumstances with enough confidence to state those details as fact.

The responsible summary is therefore concise: Nancy was one of Brady’s three older sisters and, like the other siblings, participated in competitive athletics. Claims about her occupation, marriage, children, residence, or present-day activities should not be repeated from low-authority celebrity-family websites without stronger verification.

How Tom Brady’s sisters influenced him

Brady has described his sisters as both competitive older siblings and a source of lasting support. In the high-school essay later shared by the Patriots, he wrote that Maureen, Julie, and Nancy would remain among the people who supported and recognized him regardless of what he achieved athletically. That is useful evidence of how Brady himself viewed the relationships, although it does not prove that his sisters directly caused his later professional success.

A separate Patriots account reported that Maureen advised Tom to choose a college he would be proud to graduate from, reminding him that organized sports ends for most athletes after commencement. The advice was particularly relevant while Brady was deciding where to attend college, including his eventual move to Michigan.

Brady has also said that his sisters were very competitive while the family was growing up. That supports the picture of a sports-centered and demanding household, but it is not a basis for inventing specific childhood contests, training routines, or private conversations that have not been documented.

The Brady family’s athletic tradition

Each of Tom Brady’s sisters is publicly connected to college athletics, but their records should not be treated as interchangeable:

Sibling Publicly documented athletic connection What is firmly established
Maureen Brady Fresno State softball 1994 All-American; two-time All-West and all-WAC selection; 1994 Fresno State Female Athlete of the Year; 36 wins in 1994 according to Fresno State records
Julie Brady Saint Mary’s soccer Publicly described as a former collegiate soccer player; detailed official statistics were not located
Nancy Brady College softball Publicly identified as a collegiate softball athlete; detailed school and career information remains limited
Tom Brady Football The youngest child and only son in the family; later became a professional quarterback

The strongest documented pattern is not that every sibling reached the same level or pursued the same sport. It is that Tom grew up surrounded by older sisters who competed in athletics and who, by his own account, challenged and supported him.

What is—and is not—known about the sisters

Celebrity-family coverage often fills gaps in public information with repeated but weakly sourced claims. In this case, the distinction matters:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Maureen’s elite college career is verified: Fresno State records provide her major honors and pitching totals.
  • Maureen should not automatically be called a professional softball player: the available sources establish a distinguished college career, not a verified professional career.
  • Julie’s soccer background is supported: but exact statistics, position, and honors should not be added without an official record.
  • Nancy’s identity and athletic background are supported: her college, career statistics, profession, and current personal life are not sufficiently documented in the available authoritative sources.
  • Maya Brady has her own athletic record: her achievements should not be presented as achievements belonging to her mother, Maureen.
  • “Brady Bunch” is only an informal nickname: it is not the family’s official name and can be misleading if presented as one.

Why Maureen is the most visible Brady sister

Maureen’s public profile is more substantial than those of Julie and Nancy for a straightforward reason: Fresno State and other major sports institutions have preserved and published detailed records of her athletic career. Her connection to Maya Brady has also brought renewed attention to the family’s softball history.

Julie’s marriage to Youkilis makes her more visible in sports coverage, while Nancy has generally remained outside the center of public reporting. Uneven documentation should not be mistaken for a difference in importance within the family. It simply reflects how much information each sister has chosen to make public and how extensively institutions have recorded their careers.
