The Friday, June 7, 2024 edition of NYT Strands is puzzle #96. Its theme clue is “Sorority signs,” the spangram is GREEKLETTERS, and the six other theme words are ALPHA, BETA, GAMMA, DELTA, EPSILON, KAPPA and SIGMA.
The answers are below. If you want to solve it yourself, read the progressive hints first and stop before the answer list.
Spoiler-free hints first
Work through these in order. Each one gives you a little more before the full solution.
- Theme clue: “Sorority signs.” Sorority signs are usually Greek letters, so start by looking for words that name letters of the Greek alphabet.
- Spangram clue: the extra clue reported for this edition is the Greek-letter sequence α β γ. The spangram is the longest theme word and runs across the board, so look for a long word that ties the Greek letters together.
- Letter count: there are seven theme words in total, including the spangram. Six of them are single Greek letter names; the spangram combines the category name.
Full answer list
Spoiler warning: the complete solution follows.
- Theme clue: Sorority signs
- Spangram: GREEKLETTERS (also styled GREEK LETTERS). TechRadar reports that it crosses from the top of the second column to the bottom of the third column.
- Other theme words: ALPHA, BETA, GAMMA, DELTA, EPSILON, KAPPA, SIGMA
TechRadar and Forbes list the same answer set for this edition, and Try Hard Guides identifies the same answers for puzzle #96. These are published answer guides; the answers were not checked against NYT’s own archive for this article.

How Strands works
Strands is a word-search-style puzzle on a six-by-eight grid. You find words that fit a theme, and each valid theme word is highlighted in blue. The spangram is a longer word that describes the theme and touches at least two sides of the board; it is highlighted in yellow.
- Letters can connect horizontally, vertically or diagonally.
- A path can change direction partway through a word.
- Finding three valid non-theme words unlocks a hint, which reveals letters from one theme word.
Why the year matters
June 7 falls on a different day each year, so the same date has produced different Strands puzzles. The June 7 edition is Friday in 2024 but Saturday in 2025 and Sunday in 2026. The answers above apply only to the 2024 edition. If you are looking for a different June 7, check the year and puzzle number before you use an answer list. For example, the 2025 Parade guide and the 2026 Parade guide cover later editions with different themes.
