The Thursday, July 18, 2024 edition of NYT Strands, puzzle #137, had the theme “At your fingertips” and the spangram KEYBOARD. The seven other answers were SPACE, SHIFT, ESCAPE, RETURN, DELETE, CONTROL and ENTER. This page is a reference for a past puzzle, so the answers are listed below in the order most readers want them: hint first, then the spangram, then the full list.
Start with the hint: the theme
If you want a nudge before seeing any answers, the puzzle’s theme wording is “At your fingertips.” Each word in the puzzle is a key you press on a computer keyboard, which is the connection the theme is pointing to. Two sources agree on this theme for the July 18, 2024 puzzle: the Try Hard Guides answer page by Christine Mielke, published July 17, 2024, and the Puzzlesbay archive of past Strands answers.
The spangram
The spangram for this puzzle is KEYBOARD. In Strands, the spangram is the longer word that describes the theme and touches opposite sides of the board. Once you have KEYBOARD, the remaining words are easier to place because they name keys on that keyboard.

How the hint system works
Strands counts qualifying words of four or more letters as you find them, and it gives you a hint for every three of them. A hint highlights one theme word on the board without revealing the whole solution. For this puzzle, the most efficient order is:
- Read the theme, “At your fingertips,” and think about the keys on a keyboard.
- Look for KEYBOARD, the spangram, which runs across the board and connects to the theme.
- Use a hint if you are stuck. Each hint highlights a theme word, so you can work through the seven key names one at a time.
- Check the answer list above only for the words you still cannot find.
A note on the word count
One source describes this puzzle as six regular words plus the spangram. The answer set both sources list, however, contains seven regular words. If your board shows only six, double-check that you have every key name in the list above, and do not assume the count from the description alone.

About the sources and the game’s status
The answer details come from two published pages: Christine Mielke’s Try Hard Guides post, “NYT Strands #137 July 18, 2024 Answers (7/18/24),” dated July 17, 2024, and the Puzzlesbay archive of past NYT Strands answers, which lists this puzzle in its July 2024 entries. The Try Hard Guides page describes Strands as being in beta at the time it was published. That reflects the game’s status in July 2024, not its current interface, so menus and hint behaviour may have changed since then.
