Her story connects the demands of playing professionally with a different route into the sport: making golf visible, welcoming, and fun for audiences online and beyond. She has also spoken publicly about being an LGBTQ+ Filipino American woman in golf, including the value of role models and the everyday language that can make people feel included.
How Tisha Alyn got her start in golf
Alyn says her father introduced her to golf when she was three, and she began competing at seven. She grew up in Illinois, moved to California at 11, and continued playing through school. She later received a full golf scholarship to Cal State Fullerton. Golf Pride’s 2022 profile describes her as having played competitively from a young age and pursuing professional golf after college. Golf Pride’s profile
In a 2021 USGA/Golf Journal interview, Alyn said she turned professional in 2016 and won two mini-tour events in her first year. Golf Pride says she spent three years on the Symetra Tour, now called the Epson Tour. Those details describe different parts of her playing career; they should not be mistaken for a record of LPGA Tour membership. USGA/Golf Journal interview, June 24, 2021
Why she moved from playing professionally to creating content
Alyn has described the professional grind as financially and physically difficult. In the USGA interview, she said expenses and injuries weighed on her, and that although she loved golf’s people and the feeling of success, she did not love the grind itself. She began to see social media as another way to contribute to the sport: “I realized that I could have a positive impact on the game I love through social media.” USGA/Golf Journal interview, June 24, 2021

GOLF.com reported that Alyn went full-time into content creation in 2018. Its account describes early golf swing videos, a trick-shot video, and a dancing video that became her first viral hit. Fox News Digital’s 2025 profile also places the end of her professional-playing period in 2018. Rather than leaving golf behind, she redirected her career toward communicating about it. GOLF.com, May 29, 2022 Fox News Digital, July 2025
What her golf-media career became
Her work expanded beyond posting videos. GOLF.com described her doing event work, interviews, hosting, appearances, brand promotion, and content creation. In that 2022 profile, Alyn said, “I went all in, and I never looked back.” The same story reported that her full-year 2022 partnerships included AT&T, Fitbit, Cobra-Puma, and Cisco, with short-term deals including Michelob Ultra and Bank of America. These are historical examples reported in 2022, not confirmation of current sponsorships. GOLF.com, May 29, 2022

Coming out, representation, and everyday inclusion
In the USGA interview, Alyn discussed coming out in June 2019. She described feeling tension between being authentic about her identity and what she understood as traditional Filipino culture. She also recalled lacking LGBTQ+ role models she could talk with, particularly in golf and in the Asian community. These are her personal experiences, not a description of every Filipino family or golf community. USGA/Golf Journal interview, June 24, 2021
Golf Pride’s 2022 profile says Alyn sees herself as a role model for women and girls in golf and for the LGBTQ+ community, and notes that she works closely with The Trevor Project. She has pointed to small assumptions that can shape whether someone feels welcome: she recalled a pro shop employee assuming she would play with a boyfriend, then correcting the assumption by saying her girlfriend would join her. She has also advocated saying “forward tees” rather than “ladies tees.” These examples speak to everyday language and interactions; they do not establish formal policy changes or quantify their effects. Visibility can bring connection as well as pressure. Alyn told the USGA that negative comments can hurt even amid many compliments. She has also described the tension of being asked to speak about LGBTQ+ issues while wanting her personality and wider identity to be seen, rather than being reduced to a single topic. That tension is part of what it means to become a public role model: representation matters, but it can come with scrutiny and narrow expectations. USGA/Golf Journal interview, June 24, 2021
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Her advice to aspiring creators
Alyn’s advice is to begin with sustained interest, not an audience size. In the 2021 USGA interview, she said: “The biggest advice is to decide what you’re passionate about and create content about that, even if you have zero followers. Are you passionate enough about it to make it your side hustle? That’s first. And then second, find a gap or niche that you can fill.” USGA/Golf Journal interview, June 24, 2021

That advice reflects the route she took: she brought competitive golf knowledge to short-form videos and other media work, then broadened the ways she could participate in the game. Golf Pride quoted her describing the goal for her social media as helping visitors see “how fun golf is, and how fun life can be in a sport such as this.” Golf Pride athlete profile, December 16, 2022
What “breaking barriers” means in her story
Alyn’s experience offers a specific account of barriers encountered and addressed: the physical and financial demands of professional play, the lack of role models she recalls, assumptions about gender and relationships, and the strain of public visibility. Her shift into media work gave her another way to stay connected to golf while sharing her perspective and encouraging participation.
The available profiles document her career and advocacy, but do not measure an industry-wide effect or show that one person changed professional golf on her own. The significance of her story is more grounded: a former aspiring tour player built a public platform around golf, and used it to make room for a wider range of people and experiences in the conversation about the game.
