What is Time Cut about?
Netflix describes Time Cut as a 2024 horror film with science-fiction, thriller, and teen-film labels. Its US listing gives it a runtime of 1 hour 32 minutes and a TV-14 rating. The premise begins when Lucy accidentally travels from 2024 to 2003, days before a masked killer is due to murder her sister. The film’s central question is: “Can she change the past without destroying the future?” Netflix’s title page lists the film to stream on Netflix.

How Lucy and Summer are connected
Lucy grows up in the shadow of a sister she never knew: Summer was murdered before Lucy was born. In 2003, Lucy meets Summer in person and becomes close to her, turning the mission to prevent a killing into a chance to build the relationship she missed. Bailey described Lucy as “living in the shadow of her older sister” and said that meeting Summer lets Lucy see “this light in her” and connect the dots of her own life, in the Tudum cast feature.
That relationship is the emotional core of the time-travel plot. Lucy is not just trying to undo a past event; she is trying to protect someone who becomes family to her through their time together.

Quinn and the Sweetly Slasher mystery
Quinn begins as a bullied classmate who befriends Lucy. The killer’s identity connects him to the Sweetly Slasher: the masked murderer is Quinn’s future self. Netflix Tudum’s ending explainer links the original chain of events to Quinn’s bullying and humiliation, which feed into a revenge-driven future.
Lucy intervenes in 2003 and prevents Quinn from being thrown into a river. The explainer describes this as splitting the timeline: the Quinn Lucy knows remains good-natured, while a future Quinn becomes the killer. The film’s time-travel mechanics are part of its fictional story, not a claim about real-world science.

Summer’s killer is Future Quinn. After Lucy changes events in 2003, she confronts and kills that future version of Quinn. Summer survives, but altering the past means Lucy’s original future no longer exists. The film ends with Lucy and Summer together in 2003.

Netflix Tudum reports that the filmmakers considered other endings, including one in which both sisters were alive in the present, but chose to leave them sharing a life as teenagers. The finale therefore resolves the immediate threat while making Lucy’s reunion with Summer come at the cost of returning to her former life.
