Tim Allen has four verified Christmas feature films—not five: the three Santa Clause movies and Christmas with the Kranks. Ranked from weakest to strongest, the list below weighs story, Allen’s comic performance, supporting cast, holiday atmosphere, sentiment, and how well each film works on its own or as part of its series. The order is editorial judgment, not an objective or consensus ranking.
How many Christmas movies did Tim Allen make?
The verified count is four feature films. Disney identifies three installments in The Santa Clause franchise, while Sony confirms Allen stars as Luther Krank in the separate 2004 comedy Christmas with the Kranks. The official evidence for these titles does not substantiate a fifth feature film, so this ranking does not add a television production or another kind of appearance to reach five.

4. The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause (2006)
Scott Calvin’s in-laws arrive, and Scott discovers a way out of his Santa Clause just as Jack Frost threatens Christmas. Disney lists the film’s release date as November 3, 2006, and its rating as G. Disney’s film page confirms Allen is in the cast.

As a finale, it has the weakest case in this ranking: the story adds a new escape mechanism and a threat from Jack Frost to a series already built around Scott’s transformation and responsibilities. That gives it plenty of franchise machinery, but less of the simple emotional pull that makes the original easy to revisit. Its place at the bottom is a judgment about coherence and rewatch appeal, not a claim about audience or critic consensus.
3. Christmas with the Kranks (2004)
Allen plays Luther Krank opposite Jamie Lee Curtis as Nora. After their daughter leaves home, the couple plan an island cruise and decide to skip the holidays; her surprise Christmas Eve visit sends them scrambling to celebrate. Sony lists the film as PG and confirms the cast and premise on its official film page.
Rank #2
- Fed up with the commercial aspects of Christmas, particularly the money spent, and alone for the holiday for the first time in decades, as their daughter has just joined the Peace Corps, grumpy Luther Krank and his sweet wife, Nora, decide to skip Christmas this year and forgo the gifts, the tree, the decorations, the cards, the parties and to spend the dollars saved on a 10-day Caribbean cruise.
Its standalone setup gives it a different kind of holiday comedy from Scott Calvin’s Santa story: the joke is a couple trying to opt out of Christmas and then having to pull it together at the last minute. It earns a middle spot for the contrast between Allen and Curtis and for its self-contained premise, though the abrupt scramble is less satisfying to this ranking’s taste than the stronger entries below.
2. The Santa Clause 2
In Disney’s 2025 synopsis, Scott has been Santa for eight years, Charlie is on the naughty list, and Scott must marry by Christmas Eve or lose the role. That continuation puts family trouble and a deadline at the center of the story, extending the first film’s rules into a new predicament. Disney’s franchise announcement identifies it as one of the three Santa Clause films: Disney’s 2025 holiday-programming announcement.

The marriage condition also gives the sequel a clear holiday countdown, though it cannot match the freshness of the original premise.
1. The Santa Clause (1994)
The first film remains the strongest because its central idea is both comic and affecting: on Christmas Eve, the previous Santa falls from Scott Calvin’s roof, and Scott takes on the responsibilities attached to the suit. As Scott changes, his relationship with his son Charlie begins to mend. Disney lists a November 11, 1994 release date, a PG rating, and Allen in the cast on its official film page.
The transformation gives Allen a steady comic engine, while the father-and-son story makes the holiday spectacle matter beyond the suit and sleigh. It is the most complete balance of premise, comedy, and sentiment in this set—and the film that gives the later sequels their world to build on.

Disney announced in 2025 that the Santa Clause franchise was on Disney+ and would arrive on Hulu on December 1, 2025. That is a dated availability announcement, not a guarantee of current access: streaming catalogs can vary by date and country, so check the services available in your region. The announcement is at Disney’s 2025 holiday-programming page. Sony’s Christmas with the Kranks page lists Blu-ray and DVD availability; current editions and retailer listings may change.
