The “most Aussie name ever” label is a playful claim, not an objective ranking—and the legal explanation she gave for choosing that name has not been independently established.
What name did the mum choose?
In reports published on 27 and 28 October 2022, Hayes was identified as the mother behind a TikTok video in which she said her young son was named Holden Commodore. PerthNow described him as one year old; Mums Lounge said he was about to turn one.
Hayes was responding to a prompt asking parents to share naming regrets. As reported by PerthNow, she said she did not regret her choice. Mums Lounge quoted her saying, “My son’s name is Holden Commodore.” PerthNow’s 28 October 2022 report and Mums Lounge’s 27 October 2022 report both described the name as an Australian-car reference.
Why did she say she chose Holden Commodore?
Hayes reportedly said she had first wanted to name her son Commodore, but could not use that name because she understood it to be prohibited. Mums Lounge quoted her: “Originally we wanted to call him Commodore, but that’s illegal in Australia.” She said the family chose Holden Commodore instead.

- Holden VF Commodore SSV in a Stylish Black Finish!
- Number 106/125 in the Overall Series!
- 1:64 Scale Diecast Toy Car
That is Hayes’s reported explanation, not a verified statement of Australian naming law. The two reports do not cite a registration authority, statute or jurisdiction-specific rule establishing that “Commodore” could not be registered, nor do they document the legal status of the full name. The story alone cannot confirm why one version was rejected or whether the final name was formally accepted.
How did the video become a viral story?
PerthNow reported that the video had more than 2.4 million views when its article was published on 28 October 2022. That is a historical figure reported by the outlet, not a current view count or independently verified platform total. The paper also quoted Hayes predicting, “I know people will start copying me because the name is so cool.”

The response was largely framed as a joke about the overlap between a child’s reported name and the Holden Commodore car. PerthNow relayed commenters’ hypothetical sibling-name suggestions, including “Winnie Blues,” “Suzuki Swift,” “Calais,” “Falcon” and “Victoria Bitters.” Those examples show the comic angle highlighted in the coverage; they do not establish a broader consensus about the name.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is Holden Commodore officially the “most Aussie” name?
No formal ranking or statistical measure is cited in the reports. “Most Aussie” is a humorous headline description of a name that evokes a well-known Australian car model, not a documented title or finding. PerthNow also floated Khe Sahn Cox as a comic alternative, referring to an earlier police social-media post; that aside is not a meaningful comparison or evidence of a ranking.
