If Prime Video says “This video is currently unavailable”, the message may describe a rights or account limitation rather than a broken app. Amazon availability can change by country, travel status, subscription, rental period, purchase rights, supported device, and licensing window. Work through these 10 fixes from least disruptive to most disruptive.
If Prime Video says “This video is currently unavailable”, the problem may not be your television, internet connection, or app. Amazon can remove or restrict a title because of licensing windows, country or travel location, subscription rights, rental periods, purchase rights, device support, or channel access. A title that is unavailable on every device is usually an availability or account issue—not a playback fault.
Use the fixes below in order. Start with checks that do not change your account or erase anything, then move toward updates, reinstallation, and Amazon support.
First, identify what “unavailable” means
Open the title page in a desktop or mobile browser at Prime Video, then check it on another supported device. Look for any of these options:

- Watch: The title should be available under your current account and location.
- Buy or Rent: It is not included with your current Prime membership, or your included access has ended.
- Subscribe: The title belongs to a Prime Video channel or another paid subscription.
- No valid option: The title may be outside your territory, outside its licensing window, removed from the catalog, or unavailable on that device.
Amazon says catalog availability can change because of licensing restrictions. Even content you purchased can become unavailable in limited circumstances, including licensing-related restrictions. Consequently, no app reset can restore every title.
1. Test the title on another device
Search for the same film or episode on the Prime Video website and, if possible, on a second supported device such as a phone, tablet, computer, or streaming player. Use the same Amazon account for both tests.
This separates a catalog or account problem from a device problem:
- Unavailable everywhere: The likely causes are territory, travel, subscription, rental, purchase, licensing, or account access.
- Works on another device: Focus on the original device’s app, software, date and time, network path, HDMI connection, or compatibility.
- Other titles work but this one does not: The individual title’s rights or availability are more likely than a general Prime Video failure.
2. Check your country and travel status
Prime Video does not necessarily show the same catalog in every country. Amazon says members can stream selected titles while abroad, but the selection may differ from what is available in the account holder’s home country.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteIf you are traveling, compare the title with the catalog you normally see at home. A film that played before your trip may be unavailable in the country you are currently visiting. Moving between territories can also change whether a title is included, rentable, purchasable, or unavailable.
Do not assume that a location-related message proves the app is broken. If you are in the correct country and the title remains unavailable across multiple devices, continue with the account and subscription checks below.
3. Close Prime Video completely and reopen it
Exit Prime Video rather than simply leaving it in the background. Close the browser tab on a computer. On a phone, tablet, smart TV, Fire TV device, game console, or streaming player, force-close the app if the device provides that option.
Reopen Prime Video, search for the title again, and try playback. This can clear a temporary app state without removing downloads, account information, or settings.

4. Restart the viewing device and router
Turn off the device on which you are watching and leave it powered down for at least 60 seconds. Start it again, open Prime Video, and retry the title.
If other apps or websites are also slow or failing, restart the router:
- Switch off or unplug the router.
- Wait for about 60 seconds.
- Reconnect it and wait until its status lights stabilize.
- Reconnect the viewing device and test Prime Video.
Restarting can clear a temporary connection or application state, but it cannot restore a title removed from Amazon’s catalog or restricted in your country.
5. Install Prime Video and device updates
Check for updates in both places: the Prime Video app and the device running it. Install pending updates for:
- Prime Video from the device’s app store
- Your smart TV, Fire TV device, streaming player, or game console firmware
- Your phone or tablet operating system
- Your web browser, if watching on a computer
Amazon’s playback guidance recommends using current app, browser, and device software. Update the browser itself rather than assuming that an otherwise functioning computer is compatible with every Prime Video feature.
Restart after installing updates, then test both the affected title and another title that normally plays.
6. Check the internet connection and pause other activity
Open another streaming service or website on the same device. If it also fails, the issue may be your connection rather than Prime Video. Pause large downloads, cloud backups, game updates, video calls, and other streams on your network.

- Connect the device to a wired network if it supports Ethernet.
- Try a temporary mobile hotspot, where practical and within your data plan.
- Test Prime Video on a phone using mobile data rather than home Wi-Fi.
If the title works on the alternative connection, investigate the router, Wi-Fi coverage, or competing traffic. A wired connection can be a useful diagnostic option for a device near the router, but it will not fix regional restrictions or licensing changes.
7. Verify the account, subscription, rental, and stream limits
Confirm that the device is signed in to the Amazon account that has the relevant Prime membership, channel subscription, rental, or purchase. Household members sometimes use different Amazon accounts on different TVs or streaming devices.
Also check the title page carefully. A title may require:
- A separate rental or purchase
- A Prime Video channel subscription
- An active Prime membership
- A rental that has not expired
- A purchase or subscription that is available in your current country
Prime Video also applies simultaneous-streaming limits. Under Amazon’s applicable Prime Video rules, the same title can generally be streamed on no more than two devices at once, while up to three titles can be streamed simultaneously. Stop playback on other household devices and retry.
If the channel subscription was purchased through another provider, Prime Video may not control access to it. Amazon directs customers to the external subscription provider for help with that type of access.
8. Set the device’s date and time automatically
An incorrect clock can interfere with authentication and access checks. Open the device’s date and time settings and enable automatic date, time, and time-zone settings. The exact path varies, but it is usually under Settings, System, or Date & time.
After correcting the clock, fully close Prime Video, reopen it, and sign in again if requested. This is particularly worth checking when the device was unplugged for a long time or recently moved between time zones.
9. Turn off VPNs and proxy servers
Temporarily disable any VPN, proxy, smart-DNS service, or similar location-routing tool, then restart Prime Video. Amazon’s playback troubleshooting guidance specifically recommends disabling VPNs and proxies.

These services can make Amazon detect a location different from your actual country or account permissions. Do not use a VPN as a proposed solution for a regional restriction: it may make location detection less reliable and does not change the title’s licensing rights.
10. Reinstall Prime Video, then contact Amazon
If the title works elsewhere but not on one device, uninstall Prime Video and install it again from the device’s official app store. Re-register the device or sign in again if prompted.
Reinstallation is more disruptive than restarting, so use it after the earlier checks. It may remove locally stored app data or downloaded content. Avoid a factory reset unless Amazon support or the device manufacturer specifically recommends it: a factory reset removes account information and downloaded content from all apps and should be treated as a last resort.
Before contacting Amazon support
Have these details ready:
- The exact title and episode, if applicable
- The wording of the error message
- Your Amazon account country and whether you are traveling
- The device make and model
- The Prime Video app, browser, or device software version
- Whether the title is unavailable on other supported devices
- Whether other Prime Video titles play normally
- Whether you are trying to watch included, rented, purchased, or channel content
This information helps support distinguish a title-rights problem from an account, device, or playback issue.

Check the device and HDMI path
Prime Video supports many televisions, Amazon devices, phones, tablets, Blu-ray players, game consoles, set-top boxes, media players, and computers, but supported features vary by model and configuration. Check Amazon’s current supported-device list before concluding that a persistent compatibility problem is an app bug.
For an external streaming device, the display path can also matter. Amazon advises an HDMI connection compatible with HDCP 1.4 for HD content and HDCP 2.2 for UHD or HDR content. Dolby Vision requires compatible support from the display and every relevant connected device.
If another device plays the title successfully but your TV setup does not, inspect the HDMI cable, receiver, soundbar, switch, and television input. Reconnect the devices directly to the TV as a test and select the correct input. A HDCP-compatible HDMI cable may be a reasonable replacement if the existing cable or connection is damaged or incompatible, but a new cable cannot restore a title blocked by licensing or regional rights.

- The title is unavailable on the Prime Video website and multiple supported devices.
- Your account is in the correct country, or you understand that travel has changed the catalog.
- Other Prime Video titles play normally.
- Your membership, channel subscription, rental, or purchase is the correct one.
- The title page has no valid Watch, Buy, Rent, or subscription option.
That pattern often indicates a licensing window, territory restriction, expired rental, changed subscription rights, or catalog removal. Amazon’s documentation confirms that availability can be limited by territory and time, and that purchased content can become unavailable in limited licensing-related circumstances.
In that situation, reinstalling the app repeatedly, buying a new streaming device, changing HDMI cables, or resetting the router is unlikely to help. Contact Amazon if you suspect an account or purchase error; otherwise, the practical answer may be to wait for the title to return or find it through a legitimately available service.

- Stop other streams and verify account and stream limits.
- Set the device’s date and time automatically.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does Amazon say a video is currently unavailable?
Not necessarily. If only one title is unavailable on every device while other Prime Video videos play, the title may be restricted by country, licensing window, subscription, rental, or purchase rights. Restarting the app will not restore a title that Amazon no longer offers in your territory.
Can traveling make a Prime Video title unavailable?
Yes. Amazon says the catalog available outside a member’s home country may change while traveling. A title available at home may be unavailable, rentable, or offered under different conditions abroad.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Should I use a VPN to watch an unavailable Prime Video title?
A VPN or proxy can make Amazon detect a different location from your actual country or account permissions. Amazon recommends disabling VPNs and proxies during playback troubleshooting; using one is not a reliable way to overcome regional restrictions.
How can I tell whether the problem is my device or the title?
Check whether the title works on the Prime Video website and another supported device. If it fails everywhere but other titles play, investigate rights, territory, subscription, rental, or purchase status rather than repeatedly reinstalling the app.
The Bottom Line
“Currently unavailable” does not necessarily mean Prime Video is malfunctioning. Test the title on another device first, then check country, travel, subscription, rental, purchase, and stream-limit conditions. If the title is unavailable everywhere while other videos work, the cause is probably catalog or licensing access—and no device reset can guarantee a fix.
