Hillbilly Jim entered WWE in late 1984 as an ally of Hulk Hogan, then became a wrestler Hogan trained. His career was interrupted by a knee injury, but he remained part of WWE through later television and managerial work. For many fans, his most memorable moment came at WrestleMania III, when he comforted Little Beaver after King Kong Bundy’s splash ended their six-person tag match.
Who was Hillbilly Jim in WWE?
Hillbilly Jim was a country-boy character built around a simple, instantly recognizable look: bib overalls, a beard and a horseshoe necklace. WWE lists his hometown as Mudlick, Kentucky, and names the bear hug as his signature move. Its profile bills him at 6 feet 7 inches and 320 pounds; those are promotional profile figures, not independently verified measurements. WWE’s profile
Before WWE, Jim wrestled in Stampede Wrestling in Calgary and in Memphis, where he performed as Harley Davidson, according to WWE’s retrospective.
How did he join WWE, and was Hulk Hogan his trainer?
WWE says Jim first appeared with the company in late 1984, initially supporting Hulk Hogan. The storyline then developed into Jim becoming a competitor trained by Hogan. That ally-to-wrestler transition made Hogan central to Jim’s arrival, though Jim had already wrestled elsewhere before joining WWE. WWE’s profile
