Its recorded drop angle is 121.5 degrees, with 25 October 2019 given as the record date. Guinness cautions that records can change daily and may not appear online immediately, so this is the holder listed by Guinness when checked—not a guarantee of the live record today.
What is the world’s steepest roller coaster?
TMNT Shellraiser is the steepest steel roller coaster listed by Guinness World Records. It is at Nickelodeon Universe in Rutherford, New Jersey. Guinness reports a 121.5-degree drop and dates the record to 25 October 2019. Its listing also describes a 43 m (141 ft) vertical lift hill.
How can a drop angle exceed 90 degrees?
A 90-degree descent is vertical. Guinness explains that an angle greater than 90 degrees means the track turns beyond vertical, creating a partial inversion as the train drops. The 121.5-degree figure describes the angle of Shellraiser’s drop, not its height or the length of the descent.
How does Takabisha compare?
Takabisha at Fuji-Q Highland in Japan was the previous record-holder identified by Guinness. Guinness says Shellraiser and Takabisha are both 1000-series Euro-Fighter designs by Gerstlauer Amusement Rides. Fuji-Q Highland currently describes Takabisha as having a maximum drop angle of 121 degrees—half a degree less than the Shellraiser figure in Guinness’s listing.

What should visitors know about Takabisha’s rules?
Fuji-Q Highland’s posted usage standards specify a minimum rider height of 125 cm and a maximum age of 54. The operator also lists restrictions relating to certain health conditions, pregnancy, intoxication, maintaining the riding position, and being able to evacuate independently in an emergency. Riders are asked to leave belongings in a platform locker. Check the park’s current Takabisha usage standards before visiting, since operating rules can change.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why the record should be date-qualified
Guinness says records change daily and are not always published online immediately. Its listing names Shellraiser as the record holder and gives 25 October 2019 as the record date; that supports saying Guinness lists it as the holder, rather than presenting the title as a real-time, independently verified ranking of every coaster worldwide.

- 546 ASSORTED PIECES –This K’NEX Education set includes 546 parts, plus a battery-powered motor, for a single child or a team of two to three children building a working roller coaster. Two additional models are also included in this set — a ramp and a half-pipe — which can be built one at a time. The set requires two AA batteries, which are not included.
- OFFERS HANDS-ON LEARNING – K’NEX Education models offer proactive opportunities for introducing children to scientific inquiry, investigation, and experimentation. Inquiry-based lessons challenge young learners as they build, investigate, problem-solve, discuss, and evaluate scientific and design principles in action.
- EXPERIMENT GUIDE – Once a ride is built, an activity booklet guides learners through three hands-on, inquiry-based experiments. This experiment guide aligns with the national STEM standards and is designed for grades 5‒9. Students will learn about the relationships between time, distance, speed, and more!
- PROMOTES TEAMWORK – This educational engineering set is more fun when constructed with friends. One to three kids can put their heads together and figure out the structure, exchanging ideas as they tinker with the bits and parts, and solving the model faster through teamwork. They’ll build camaraderie and develop social skills as they play.
- STEAMagination: It’s the connection of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts & math) with a child’s natural curiosity and creativity and it powers the fun of each and every K’NEX building set. Building with K’NEX puts children on a path towards a fundamental understanding of STEAM/STEM subjects.
