The Witcher’s fifth and final season may no longer arrive in 2026. Recent reporting indicates that Season 5 appears to have shifted into 2027 after reportedly disappearing from Netflix’s public-facing 2026 promotional materials. However, Netflix has not confirmed the delay, announced a 2027 release window, or published an exact premiere date.
So, when will The Witcher Season 5 be released?
There is still no official release date for The Witcher Season 5 on Netflix.
As of August 12, 2026, the best-supported expectation is that the season may arrive sometime in 2027. That is a reported scheduling change, not a confirmed Netflix announcement. No reliable official source currently identifies a specific month, quarter, or day.
The safest summary is therefore: The Witcher Season 5 is reportedly being considered for 2027, but Netflix has not confirmed either the year or a premiere date.

Why the expected release window changed
For much of 2026, the working expectation was that the final season would premiere later in the year. A July 14, 2026 slate report still listed Season 5 as a late-2026 release.
Newer reports from TechRadar and PC Gamer on August 10 said the season had apparently been removed from Netflix’s public-facing 2026 promotional materials and may have moved into 2027. Both reports made the important qualification that Netflix had not publicly confirmed the change and that no precise 2027 window was known.
The two sets of reports are not necessarily contradictory. The July report reflected the earlier public expectation; the August reports represent the newer update. Until Netflix publishes a date, however, neither late 2026 nor 2027 should be described as locked.

What Netflix has officially confirmed
Netflix has confirmed that Season 5 will be the fifth and final season of the main Witcher series. Seasons 4 and 5 were planned as the concluding two chapters, with Liam Hemsworth taking over the role of Geralt for both seasons.

The final two seasons are intended to adapt the remaining major novels in Andrzej Sapkowski’s Witcher saga: Baptism of Fire, The Tower of the Swallow, and Lady of the Lake.
That does not mean the Netflix series will reproduce every event or the exact ending of the books. It does establish the broad source-material plan for the final stretch of the adaptation.

Season 5 filming is complete—but that does not mean the show is finished
Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich said in an October 29, 2025 interview with GamesRadar+ that filming had wrapped only a few weeks earlier. She also expected the production to remain in post-production for a considerable period.
That production status helps explain why a 2027 release remains plausible even though principal filming ended in 2025. A large fantasy series still needs visual-effects work, editing, sound, music, color finishing, localization, quality control, and global launch preparation after filming concludes.

Who will be in The Witcher Season 5?
- Liam Hemsworth returns as Geralt of Rivia.
- Freya Allan continues as Ciri.
- Anya Chalotra returns as Yennefer.
- Laurence Fishburne joined the franchise as Regis in Season 4 and is part of the final-era story.
Netflix has described the final two seasons as following Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer as they attempt to reunite while war, political conflict, and separation continue to pull them apart.
The central family’s reunion remains the major story question heading into the final season. Netflix has not released enough Season 5 plot information to confirm how closely the ending will follow the novels or which events will be changed for television.
Where Season 4 left the series
Season 4 premiered on Netflix on October 30, 2025, and contains eight episodes. Netflix’s current official Witcher page lists all eight episodes as available to stream while emphasizing that the story is not yet complete.

Netflix has not yet published a Season 5 episode count, trailer, full synopsis, or premiere date in the official materials reviewed for this update.
What the final two seasons are expected to cover
Netflix says the concluding seasons draw from the three remaining major Witcher novels:
- Baptism of Fire
- The Tower of the Swallow
- Lady of the Lake
Readers who want to revisit the story material behind the final chapters can read the three Witcher books behind the final chapters. Editions, prices, language availability, and stock can change, so readers should check the specific edition before buying.
The novels can provide context and a sense of the remaining saga, but they cannot be treated as a guaranteed spoiler map for the show. The Netflix adaptation has already made substantial changes to characters, chronology, and plot.
What we know—and what we do not
High-confidence information
- Season 5 is the final season of Netflix’s main The Witcher series.
- Liam Hemsworth plays Geralt for Seasons 4 and 5.
- Seasons 4 and 5 were filmed back-to-back.
- Season 5 filming had finished by late 2025.
- Netflix has not announced an exact Season 5 premiere date in the official materials reviewed.
Moderate-confidence information
- The expected 2026 release window may have shifted into 2027.
- The reported change is connected to the season’s apparent removal from Netflix’s public 2026 promotional slate.
Information that should not be treated as confirmed
- A specific 2027 month, quarter, or day.
- A claim that Netflix has officially delayed Season 5.
- A claim that the season will definitely premiere in 2027.
- A claim that post-production has been officially identified as the reason for the change.
How to follow the release-date announcement
The most dependable confirmation will come from Netflix itself, such as an official Netflix announcement, the Netflix Media Center, Tudum, or an updated official Witcher title page. A date appearing in an unofficial schedule, retailer listing, fan account, or promotional rumor should not be treated as final on its own.
The next meaningful update will likely be one of three things: Netflix restoring Season 5 to a 2026 slate, Netflix formally announcing a 2027 window, or Netflix publishing a full date alongside a teaser, trailer, or launch campaign.
