Hemsworth took over the role from Henry Cavill, beginning with Season 4; Netflix later confirmed that Hemsworth’s run would span the show’s final two seasons.
What the first look showed
Netflix introduced Hemsworth as Geralt in an official video and accompanying Tudum announcement published May 22, 2024. The reveal marked the recasting, rather than a new character or an in-story explanation for the change. Netflix’s announcement described Hemsworth as taking the reins from Cavill and stepping into the role.
How the reveal fits the Season 4 timeline
The May 2024 video was the first look, not the later, longer Season 4 preview. On September 14, 2025, Netflix published extended footage, first-look images and the season’s release date. The distinction matters: the original announcement introduced Hemsworth’s Geralt, while the later promotion offered additional material and a date.
| Date | Netflix announcement |
|---|---|
| May 22, 2024 | Official first-look video introducing Hemsworth as Geralt. |
| September 14, 2025 | Extended footage, first-look photos and the Season 4 release date. |
| October 30, 2025 | Season 4 premiered, according to Netflix. |
| December 10, 2025 | Netflix reported that all eight Season 4 episodes were streaming and identified Season 5 as the final season. |
When did Liam Hemsworth take over as Geralt?
Hemsworth took over from Cavill starting in Season 4. Netflix set the season’s premiere for October 30, 2025. In its December 10, 2025 update, Netflix said all eight episodes were then streaming and that Season 5 would be the final season. Streaming catalogs can vary by country and change over time, so that is Netflix’s reported availability as of that update, not a guarantee for every viewer today.

What Seasons 4 and 5 cover
Netflix says the final two seasons adapt the remaining books in Andrzej Sapkowski’s saga: Baptism of Fire, The Tower of the Swallow and Lady of the Lake. Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich described the ending as “the beginning of a two-season journey for our family to finally reunite and be together — hopefully forever.” The statement frames the continuing story; it is not a comment on Hemsworth’s performance.
