Billboard Brasil reported that the video appeared on the night of Wednesday, 30 October 2024. Universal Music Brasil and Universal Music Canada published release announcements dated 31 October, framing the video and song as a Halloween release. The premiere-night timing and the next-day announcement refer to different points in the rollout.

What happens in the “São Paulo” video?
Anitta portrays a pregnant character wearing a mask. As the story moves through New York, a face appears and keeps emerging from her belly, leading into a macabre labor sequence that culminates in the fictional “birth” of The Weeknd. The pregnancy and birth are staged, surreal body-horror imagery, not real events.
Billboard Brasil also reported that Anitta used a prosthetic to simulate pregnancy during filming. Universal Music Canada’s synopsis describes the central image as “an ever-emerging face within her belly.”

How did the song’s live debut connect to the video?
Billboard Brasil reported that The Weeknd and Anitta first performed “São Paulo” at his São Paulo concert in September 2024, before the official release. Universal Music Brasil’s announcement also placed Anitta and Playboi Carti at that concert.
