The Book of Carol is worth watching primarily for the bond between its returning leads. The six-episode second season gives Daryl Dixon and Carol Peletier the emotional center, and their reunion premise supplies a strong reason to keep going. Its story and supporting conflicts are less consistently compelling, but the characters’ appeal ultimately outweighs those flaws.
What is The Book of Carol?
The Book of Carol is season two of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, a six-episode continuation that premiered on September 29, 2024. AMC’s season announcement identifies Norman Reedus as Daryl and Melissa McBride as Carol, and says the story picks up after season one.
The setup separates the two characters before bringing their paths together: Daryl remains in France while Carol searches for him. AMC’s viewing guide and the Prime Video season page describe that premise. It makes the season’s central question less about whether Daryl and Carol matter to each other than how their separate journeys shape the eventual reunion.
Why Daryl and Carol carry the season
The show’s strongest asset is the contrast between its leads. Daryl is a man of action who has been forced to make a life far from home; Carol is resourceful and determined, and her search gives the season an urgent emotional direction. Their long-established connection gives their reunion weight that a new pairing would have to spend a season earning.

Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
That focus also makes the story’s shortcomings easier to feel. When the plot’s turns or supporting conflicts do not land, the central relationship remains the clearest reason to care about what happens next. The season is most persuasive when it lets the characters’ choices and attachment drive the drama, rather than asking external complications alone to supply momentum.
Where the season’s flaws show
Momentum depends on the reunion setup
Separating Daryl and Carol creates anticipation, but it also means the season’s emotional payoff is deferred while each character follows a different path. That structure can make parts of the journey feel like connective tissue: the destination is compelling, while not every step toward it has equal force.

Supporting conflicts do not always deepen the leads’ story
France gives the series a setting distinct from the familiar American landscapes of The Walking Dead, and the surrounding characters offer room to widen Daryl’s world. But the season is less effective when its supporting conflicts feel like detours rather than pressure that reveals something new about Daryl or Carol. The result is an uneven balance between the leads’ intimate story and the broader survival drama.
Action is not a substitute for character development
The franchise’s action and danger can maintain tension, but they matter most when they change the choices available to the leads or test their bond. When a plot turn does not feel fully earned, spectacle alone cannot provide the same satisfaction as a character-driven payoff. That gap is a weakness, though it does not erase the appeal of watching these two characters share the story again.

Is The Book of Carol worth watching?
Yes, especially if Daryl and Carol are the reason you are considering the series. Their relationship gives the season a clear emotional center, and the search-and-reunion structure makes their separate stories feel connected even when the pacing or supporting material is uneven. Viewers looking for tightly sustained plot momentum in every episode may find more to criticize; viewers invested in these characters have a stronger reason to stay with it.
This is a critical judgment about the season, not a claim of universal agreement. Rotten Tomatoes maintains a season-two reception page, but its score and review count can change, so no fixed aggregate figure is necessary to assess the show’s central strength and weaknesses.
