Jaden Smith publicly called Tyler, the Creator his boyfriend in 2018 and used the label again in 2020. Those remarks and Tyler’s reported response do not confirm that the two were romantically involved, and the cited coverage does not establish their relationship status today.
What happened at Camp Flog Gnaw in 2018?
During a November 2018 performance at the Camp Flog Gnaw festival, Smith praised Tyler as his best friend, said he loved him, and then called him his boyfriend. The Independent reported Smith’s full onstage remarks, including: “Tyler doesn’t wanna say, but Tyler is my motherf***ing boyfriend, and he’s been my motherf***ing boyfriend my whole motherf***ing life. It’s true! Tyler is my boyfriend.” (UPI, November 12, 2018; The Independent, February 12, 2019)
Smith followed up on social media: “Yup @tylerthecreator I Told Everyone You Can’t Deny It Now.” UPI described Tyler as laughing and waving his finger no during the performance. (UPI)
How did Tyler respond, and what did the exchange establish?
The Independent reported Tyler’s reply to Smith’s post as: “Hahaha you a crazy n***a man.” The outlet said it was unclear whether Smith was joking or the two were dating. The playful exchange documents what they said publicly; it does not settle whether they were in a romantic relationship.

On January 26, 2020, after Tyler won Best Rap Album for IGOR at the 62nd Grammy Awards, Smith posted: “My Boyfriend Just Won A Grammy.” Entertainment Tonight reported both the post and the award. Repeating the label in a congratulatory message is not independent confirmation of a relationship. (Entertainment Tonight, January 26, 2020)
Are Jaden Smith and Tyler, the Creator dating?
The cited reports do not establish that they were dating, nor do they verify either person’s current relationship status. Smith’s public wording is clear; what it meant about their private relationship is not. The available exchange is not a basis for inferring either person’s sexuality or private life.
