Is The Super Mario Galaxy Movie streaming now?

Some search results still show April 3. That date was real, but it belonged to the earlier schedule: Nintendo and Illumination’s September 12, 2025 announcement said the movie would begin its worldwide release on April 3, with Japan scheduled for April 24. Nintendo’s March 10, 2026 update, issued with the final trailer, moved the U.S. and many other markets to April 1. Japan remained listed for April 24.
May 19, 2026: Paid digital release
Universal made the movie available digitally in the U.S. on May 19, 2026. This was the paid home-entertainment window, often called PVOD or transactional VOD.
Viewers could rent or buy the movie through participating digital retailers without a Peacock subscription. The digital release was also described as viewing with no ads or subscription required. A May 5 date that appeared in some earlier search results was a pre-release prediction or listing, not the final official date. The confirmed date is in Universal’s announcement.
June 16, 2026: Physical home video
Physical editions followed on June 16, 2026. Universal’s home-entertainment materials identify 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray releases and also list DVD editions, digital-inclusive packages, and two-film collections pairing the movie with The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

A disc is the better fit for viewers who want access that is not dependent on a temporary streaming license, who collect Mario releases, or who want to lend or replay a physical edition. It is still worth checking the exact package: bonus features and included digital codes can differ by format, retailer, and territory.
July 30, 2026: Peacock subscription streaming
Peacock became the first U.S. subscription-streaming home for the movie on July 30. The launch arrived 120 days after the April 1 theatrical opening, a schedule that matched the timing used for the previous Super Mario Bros. movie. That pattern explains the date, but it should not be treated as a permanent 120-day rule for every Universal release.

The best current U.S. estimate is November 30, 2026, but Netflix has not yet confirmed that exact title-specific date.
What is confirmed
Netflix and Universal announced an expanded U.S. licensing arrangement covering animated films from Illumination and DreamWorks Animation. Under the structure described in Netflix’s official agreement, an animated film first premieres on Peacock, then moves to a ten-month Netflix-exclusive window before returning to Peacock.
That agreement establishes the licensing pattern. It does not name The Super Mario Galaxy Movie or publish a specific Netflix calendar date for it.
Why November 30 is the likely date
The movie began its Peacock window on July 30, 2026. Applying the four-month Peacock period and then beginning the Netflix window on November 30 produces the date reported by What’s on Netflix’s calculation. It is a strong projection, but it should be labeled expected or projected, not confirmed.
The date could change if Universal uses a different window calculation, if the licensing arrangement is applied differently to this title, or if Netflix and Universal announce a revised schedule. The reliable confirmation will be a Netflix title page, a Netflix newsroom announcement, or a title-specific Universal announcement.
Could it return to Peacock?
Under the reported arrangement, the Netflix-exclusive period lasts ten months before the film returns to Peacock. Depending on the exact start and end-date calculation, a later Peacock return would be roughly in the September-to-November 2027 range. There is no title-specific official return date to publish yet.

There is no universally cheapest option. The answer depends on current promotions, taxes, plan tiers, how many times you will watch, and whether you value extras or ownership. A digital purchase is still governed by a retailer account and license terms; it is not identical to owning a disc.
Picture, sound, runtime, and rating
The official Peacock listing gives the movie a runtime of 1 hour 38 minutes, or 98 minutes, and a PG rating. The Apple TV listing also gives a 98-minute runtime and identifies Dolby Atmos for the English track. Actual audio support depends on the chosen service, device, title version, and home theater equipment.

Do not apply the U.S. Peacock schedule worldwide. The July 30 Peacock date is a U.S. subscription-streaming date, not a global release date.

Peacock ended its direct U.K. distribution in 2024, according to Nintendo Life’s streaming guide. The previous Super Mario Bros. movie reached the U.K. through NOW and Sky Cinema rather than Peacock, but that earlier arrangement does not guarantee the sequel’s destination.

What to do if the movie is missing from a service
- Confirm the account region. Check the country associated with the account and billing profile.
- Search the exact title. Include 2026 in the search to avoid confusing it with The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
- Check the type of listing. The film may be available for rent or purchase even when it is absent from the service’s subscription catalog.
- Open the movie storefront. On Amazon, for example, inspect the Prime Video store rather than assuming a search result is included with Prime.

Why some pages still show the wrong dates
Release-date coverage published before the official announcements can remain visible in search results after the schedule changes. For example, earlier forecasts from Tom’s Guide and Forbes estimated a May digital window and an August Peacock arrival. Those were forecasts, not the final dates announced by Universal and Peacock.
The same problem explains the April 3 search result. It reflects Nintendo and Illumination’s original September 2025 announcement. Nintendo later updated the U.S. date to April 1, which should be used for the definitive U.S. timeline.
Most importantly, the word streaming is often used loosely. A movie can be described as streaming when it is available through a paid digital rental, but that is not the same as subscription streaming. This title’s windows should be labeled separately as theatrical, digital rental or purchase, physical home video, Peacock subscription streaming, and the projected Netflix licensing window.
