Super Show! returned to MeTV Toons on March 30, 2026, as a weekday program. The current schedule is not the same as the launch announcement: MeTV Toons now lists the series at 4:30 a.m. ET on its New York schedule. The broadcast has also drawn criticism from viewers who say AI-based upscaling made the animation look too smooth and less textured. Here is what is known about the schedule, the restoration process, and WildBrain’s response.
When is The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! on MeTV Toons?
MeTV Toons announced on March 17, 2026, that the series would join its weekday lineup beginning March 30, airing from 8 to 8:30 a.m. ET/PT. That was the announced launch slot, not a guaranteed current time. The network’s current show page lists a weekday slot of 4:30 a.m. ET / 3:30 Central, and its schedule configured for New York also shows the program at 4:30 a.m. ET.

Because schedules vary by location and can change, check your local listing before tuning in. MeTV Toons maintains a show page and a schedule page; the latter can be configured for a location. The March 17 launch announcement is documented by Animation World Network.
What is the show?
First broadcast in 1989, The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! was inspired by Nintendo’s Super Mario Bros. video game. In its animated story, Brooklyn plumbers Mario and Luigi are transported to the Mushroom Kingdom, where they have adventures with Princess Toadstool, Toad, and other characters. The program also includes live-action performances, with Lou Albano as Mario and Danny Wells as Luigi. MeTV Toons summarizes the series and its characters on its show page.

Why are viewers criticizing the MeTV Toons version?
In an April 2, 2026 report, Cartoon Brew reported that episodes airing on MeTV Toons had been altered using AI-based upscaling. The report described viewers objecting to an overly smoothed appearance and a loss of the texture and handmade quality associated with the original animation. Those are reported reactions, not results from a quantified viewer survey or an independent technical comparison of the source material and broadcasts.
The concern is about how the restored image looks, not an announced change to the show’s story or characters. Cartoon Brew also noted that press materials issued before the broadcast had not mentioned AI. The report does not establish that every episode has the same visible issue, or that every perceived change stems from AI.

What has WildBrain said about the upscaling?
Cartoon Brew identified WildBrain as the series’ distributor and reported a statement from an unnamed WildBrain spokesperson. The company described the work as a human-led, AI-assisted effort to improve resolution, colour quality, and the overall presentation of older library content. The spokesperson said the process is overseen by professionals who manage classic content, rather than carried out by WildBrain’s studio.
WildBrain also acknowledged a limitation: older source material may not contain enough information for AI tools to interpret correctly, which can produce visible distortions in some cases. The spokesperson said, “We are actively reviewing the episodes and working to correct issues where they occur.” That statement was reported on April 2, 2026; it does not establish the status of every correction made afterward.
