James Gunn’s Superman (2025) finished its theatrical run with a reported worldwide box-office gross of $618,723,803, clearing $600 million. The Numbers and Box Office Mojo report the same total and territory split. The milestone is best understood as a year-to-date first: the available figures support that no earlier 2025 superhero release had reached the threshold, though the databases do not publish a full comparison of every film’s gross on the exact crossing date.
Did Superman make $600 million worldwide?
Yes. The Numbers and Box Office Mojo each list Superman (2025) at $618,723,803 worldwide. That is the film’s reported cumulative theatrical gross, not studio profit or the amount Warner Bros. kept after theaters and other costs.
The Numbers also lists a $225 million production budget. That figure is not a full cost audit: it does not establish marketing and distribution expenses, exhibitor shares, or profitability.
What is Superman’s global box office split?
| Market | Reported gross |
|---|---|
| Domestic | $354,223,803 |
| International | $264,500,000 |
| Worldwide | $618,723,803 |
The Numbers and Box Office Mojo report the same domestic, international, and worldwide figures. “Domestic” is the databases’ box-office category; these totals describe ticket sales, not net receipts to the studio.

Was it the first superhero movie of 2025 to pass $600 million?
The threshold claim is supported as a year-to-date milestone: Superman reached $600 million worldwide before any other 2025 superhero release did. The final totals establish that the film ended above the mark, while the release chronology and contemporaneous reporting provide the context for the “first” framing. However, the cited box-office pages do not show a complete side-by-side record of every superhero film’s earnings on the specific day Superman crossed $600 million. The ranking should therefore not be described as a certification issued by either database.
When and where did the film open?
DC’s official film page lists a nationwide U.S. release on July 11, 2025, and says international release began July 9. Release dates varied by market: The Numbers lists Thailand opening July 8 and several markets opening July 9. Box Office Mojo also lists July 9 as the earliest release date.

The Numbers reports a domestic opening weekend of $125,021,735. In a July 13, 2025 report, the Associated Press described the domestic opening at the time as an estimate of $122 million and reported $95 million from 78 international markets. Those are contemporaneous opening figures, not the film’s final cumulative totals; they differ in timing and scope from the later database totals.

Warner Bros. distribution chief Jeffrey Goldstein told the Associated Press: “We needed to get the trust of the fanbase, and we didn’t have it. They were clear to us that we needed to take a step back and reinvent ourselves.” The comment gives context for the studio’s stated relationship with DC audiences, but it does not by itself explain the film’s box-office performance.

DC identifies James Gunn as writer and director and says Gunn and Peter Safran produced the film; Warner Bros. Pictures distributed it. The Numbers lists a 129-minute runtime, a PG-13 rating for violence, action, and language, and an August 15, 2025 video release by Warner Home Video.
