Spoilers for season 3, episode 10. “Last Year,” the penultimate episode of The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3, follows Belly as she begins a life in Paris while Jeremiah and Conrad try to move forward back home. Its holiday jumps show Belly making choices for herself; the closing turn points directly toward the finale.
What happens in “Last Year”?
Prime Video’s official title for season 3, episode 10 is “Last Year,” not “Belly takes the wheel.” The episode was released September 10, 2025, runs 1 hour 11 minutes, and stars Lola Tung as Belly, Christopher Briney as Conrad, and Gavin Casalegno as Jeremiah. Prime Video’s episode listing describes its three-part focus: Belly builds a new life in Paris, Jeremiah tries to find his footing back home, and Conrad in California still thinks about Belly.
Belly starts over in Paris
The story takes place three months after the wedding and follows holiday moments on both sides of the Atlantic, according to TheWrap’s episode recap. Paris gives Belly room to establish a life outside the Fisher brothers’ orbit. On New Year’s Eve, she kisses Benito after Taylor encourages her to pursue the connection. That moment is less a declaration that the past is erased than a sign that Belly is willing to act on what she wants now.
Jeremiah adjusts back home
TheWrap reports that Jeremiah turns down the Breaker job, finishes classes online, and initially stays with Steven before later staying with Denise. His storyline is about trying to find direction without Belly, rather than simply waiting for her to return.

Conrad remains caught on Belly
In California, Conrad is still thinking about Belly. The episode ends with him heading to Paris, a transition into the finale rather than the reunion itself. The finale’s events are outside this episode’s story.
Why does the episode feel different from the book?
“Last Year” gives Belly’s Paris life and the aftermath of the wedding substantial space. TheWrap notes that the television version moves further from the third novel after the season’s wedding storyline: the book moves ahead to Belly and Conrad’s wedding, while the show spends more time with Belly in Paris. The series adapts Jenny Han’s trilogy, whose final novel is We’ll Always Have Summer, as identified by TIME. This is a change in order and emphasis, not a scene-for-scene retelling. Readers comparing the two should expect the adaptation to reshape when events happen and how much time it gives them.

What “Belly takes the wheel” means here
The phrase is an interpretation of the episode, not its official title. Belly’s new setting and her New Year’s Eve choice give her story a forward motion of its own, while Jeremiah and Conrad are left to work out what comes next separately. That shift makes the episode feel like a bridge: it gives Belly space to build a different life, then sends Conrad toward Paris just as the finale approaches.
