Because the original The Simpsons Movie opened in July 2007, the sequel is due more than 20 years after its predecessor. ITV News reported the original film’s release month and year in its account of the 2025 announcement.
What is the new Simpsons movie called?
The later-reported title is The New Simpsons Movie. The 2025 announcement described the project as a sequel without using that title; the updated name was reported by ComingSoon.net in August 2026, which attributed the information to Disney. That makes The Simpsons Movie 2 a useful shorthand for the sequel, but The New Simpsons Movie is the title given in the later report.

What was on the first poster?
The first poster showed Homer’s yellow hand reaching for a pink doughnut. Its tagline read: “Homer’s coming back for seconds.” ITV News and contemporaneous coverage of the 2025 announcement reported the image and wording.
What is known about the story and cast?
Plot details and production-team information were still undisclosed in the July 2026 report from ComicBook.com, and the August update offered little additional story information. The reports cited here do not establish an official full cast announcement or provide a confirmed plot synopsis, so character appearances and story details should not be treated as settled.
