Executive producer Tim Long confirmed that her death in the reported 2025 episode is meant to be real, despite an earlier episode in which she also appeared to die.
Who died on The Simpsons after 34 years?
It was Alice Glick, Springfield’s church organist. The Independent says she was introduced in 1991, which is the basis for its 2025 headline’s “after 34 years” framing. Us Weekly separately describes her as having appeared on the show for 35 seasons; elapsed years and season count are different measures, not interchangeable descriptions.

Glick first appeared in season two, episode 21, “Three Men and a Comic Book,” which aired in 1991. Cloris Leachman originally voiced her. Tress MacNeille took over the role after Leachman died in 2021.
What happens to Alice Glick in the reported episode?
Alice dies during a church service. Springfield Elementary later holds a memorial, and the episode reveals that she left her estate to fund a new school music program. The reporting does not establish the episode’s exact title, episode number or original U.S. air date.
Is Alice Glick really dead?
According to executive producer Tim Long, yes. The Independent quoted him saying: “In a sense, Alice the organist will live forever, through the beautiful music she made. But in another, more important sense, yep, she’s dead as a doornail.”
Why did viewers think Alice had died before?
Alice had already appeared to die in “Replaceable You,” when a robotic seal attacked her. She later returned in human form and also appeared as a ghost. The reports describe those appearances but do not offer an official continuity explanation for them.

Is Mr. Largo the character who died?
No. Mr. Largo’s supposed death was a separate joke in the season 37 premiere, not Alice Glick’s death story. The Independent reported that co-executive producers Cesar Mazariegos and Jessica Conrad said the line about the music teacher dying was a joke. Mazariegos explained: “But we usually don’t want to get rid of our characters. And it’s such a cartoony world. We know even if Moleman is in a car that explodes, it doesn’t mean he’s dead forever.”
