That speculation is the part of the story where reporting is most cautious: it reflects what people guessed and what was said publicly, not confirmed findings about private conduct.
What “soft swinging” means
Paul’s own description, as quoted by The Washington Post, was “when you just hook up, but you don’t go all the way.” That is her personal explanation of the phrase, not a formal or universal definition used by researchers or by the wider swinging community. If you see the term used in other coverage, check whether the writer is quoting Paul or applying their own meaning.

Who was involved, and what remains unsettled
Most of the names circulating online are attached to rumor rather than to documented statements. Reporting on the story is clearer about what is not established than about who did what:
- The Washington Post reports that some women denied being swingers.
- TIME reports that most members of the group were not swingers.
- Online lists of “who was involved” should be treated as speculation unless the person named has said so publicly.
Paul’s account is the only one in this story that is firmly attributed to a named person speaking on the record. Treating other people’s involvement as proven would go beyond what the reporting supports.

What the Hulu series covers
Hulu describes The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives as following a group of Mormon mom influencers from Utah and the fallout from a soft-swinging scandal. Independent coverage describes the show as reaching beyond swinging to friendships, faith, womanhood, and reinvention. In other words, the scandal is the starting point, and much of the series concerns how the women’s relationships and public lives change afterward.
Premise versus production
The series is a produced reality program. Hulu’s own page is a promotional description of the premise, so it is reliable for what the show is about and who distributes it, but it is not neutral proof of what happened in private. Scenes, storylines, and emphasis reflect editing choices. Use the show as a window into how the story was told on screen, not as a complete record of events.

Later storylines and cast updates (as of October 8, 2026)
Hulu’s later franchise guide highlights a separate storyline involving Marciano Brunette, which is distinct from the original 2022 disclosure. The Los Angeles Times reported on September 21, 2026 that Mikayla Matthews said she would not continue after Season 6, while Layla Taylor said she planned to finish that season and then decide whether to continue. These are statements dated to that report, not a confirmed production schedule for future seasons, so check Hulu and recent coverage before assuming anything about what comes next.

What the cast does not represent
AP explicitly cautions that the cast cannot represent millions of women in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The show follows a small group of creators in one social circle. Their choices, and the reactions to them, should not be read as the beliefs or behavior of Latter-day Saints in general, who hold a wide range of views and lives.

Use Paul’s public account as the anchor, treat other names and private details as unconfirmed unless the person has spoken on the record, and read the Hulu series as a produced portrait of a social circle rather than a documentary record. Those distinctions are the difference between what was said, what has been reported, and what remains speculation.
