Queen Elizabeth II’s documented vehicles ranged from a Rolls-Royce used for state transport to Land Rovers and Range Rovers used for public duties and work on royal estates. The available official accounts describe selected vehicles and their roles, not a complete inventory of cars she personally owned.
Why “royal fleet” is more accurate than a complete car collection
The vehicles associated with Elizabeth II are best understood by what they did and where they were used. Manufacturer and institutional accounts identify particular cars, duty-specific equipment and exhibition groups; they do not establish every vehicle connected to the Queen or whether each was personally owned. The Royal Collection Trust explains that the Royal Mews provides road transport for the royal family by motor car and horse-drawn carriage, but its general description is not a full inventory of Elizabeth II’s cars (Royal Collection Trust).
Nor should the vehicles discussed here automatically be treated as objects in the Royal Collection. The Trust says that collection is held in trust by the King as Sovereign for his successors and the nation; that statement does not establish that every vehicle associated with the Queen belongs to it (Royal Collection Trust).
State transport: a Rolls-Royce Phantom V in the UAE
Rolls-Royce identifies a Phantom V as Elizabeth II’s official state conveyance during her 1979 visit to the United Arab Emirates. That account connects the car to a specific state occasion; it does not, by itself, establish a full history of the vehicle or the Queen’s broader use of Phantom models (Rolls-Royce Motor Cars).

Reviewing and touring: Land Rovers adapted for public duties
Jaguar Land Rover describes a State Review Land Rover built with a custom rear platform, an adaptation suited to review duties. The manufacturer also describes a royal vehicle with special equipment, leather seats and a radio system. These details show that some vehicles were configured for their particular work, rather than simply being standard luxury cars (Jaguar Land Rover).
Estate work and the ten-vehicle Pebble Beach display
Land Rover, Range Rover and Defender vehicles also appear in accounts of official duties and practical work on royal estates. In 2024, Jaguar Land Rover announced a Pebble Beach display of ten Defender and Range Rover models used by Elizabeth II. The number describes that exhibition group—not the size of her whole fleet. The company said, “Each model in the convoy has close links to the Royal Family, carrying out official duties or working behind the scenes on the Royal estates” (Jaguar Land Rover Classic).

What the documented vehicles tell us—and what they do not

These examples make the “fleet” broader than a row of ceremonial limousines: the documented roles include state conveyance, public review and practical estate use. But the cited accounts do not provide a complete inventory, a reliable total vehicle count or an authoritative collection-wide valuation. The ten vehicles announced for the 2024 display cannot be used as a total for the Queen’s vehicles.
