What happens at the end of The Rookie Season 7?
The finale closes one immediate crisis—Nolan is rescued—but leaves both the romantic and criminal storylines open. Lucy has just become a sergeant and started working nights with the Dream Team. Tim wants to discuss getting back together, but she is asleep before she can answer his proposal to move in together. At the same time, Oscar gets away, and Monica reappears protected by an immunity deal.

Do Tim and Lucy get back together?
Not formally in the episode. Tim visits Lucy after her shift and tells her he has been working through the reasons he hurt her. He suggests they move in together so they can give the relationship a real chance. Lucy falls asleep before responding; Tim kisses her head and makes clear the conversation is not over.
That scene leaves the answer unresolved rather than showing a reunion. Creator and showrunner Alexi Hawley described it as a hopeful shift, saying, “I think we’ve turned a corner. I think we built to a place where it is, for me, still a feel-good ending for their relationship.” He also acknowledged that they had not “dot[ted] the i’s and cross[ed] the t’s.” His comments explain the intended feeling of the scene; they do not mean the characters have officially resumed their relationship on screen.

The timing matters: Lucy’s promotion and night-shift work are changing her professional life just as Tim asks for a major personal commitment. Hawley said the story needed to reckon with the damage Tim’s breakup caused and show the characters doing the work before a reconciliation could feel earned.
What happens to Nolan and Oscar?
Oscar kidnaps Nolan and threatens him, but Nyla finds a way to help rescue Nolan with assistance from a teenager and a drone. Nolan survives. Oscar escapes by helicopter, so the rescue ends the immediate danger to Nolan but does not put Oscar in the officers’ custody.

Why is Monica’s return a cliffhanger?
Monica appears after securing an immunity deal by trading highly classified information. The deal makes her difficult for the officers to pursue with a straightforward arrest, despite their desire to bring her in.
Hawley said in May 2025 that Monica would play a part in Season 8 and that the deal opened up story possibilities. He also said Oscar could not keep getting away indefinitely. Those were statements about the story’s direction at the time, not guarantees of a particular later outcome.

Is Season 7 the end of The Rookie?
No. Season 7 ends on unresolved storylines, but it is not the series finale. ABC’s episode guide lists Season 8 episodes, including an episode dated May 5, 2026. That confirms the show continued beyond the Season 7 cliffhanger; the episode guide alone does not establish every subsequent character outcome.
