Season 3 has finished filming—and its release date is now official
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 3 completed its principal photography on December 10, 2025. Amazon announced the picture wrap in a behind-the-scenes video featuring Jamie Campbell Bower with returning stars including Morfydd Clark and Charlie Vickers.
That is a meaningful production milestone, but it does not mean the season is finished. Visual effects, editing, sound, music, localization, delivery work, and possible pickups or reshoots can continue after the main cameras stop. The important difference for viewers is that Season 3 is no longer waiting to begin—or finish—filming. Amazon has separately confirmed that it will premiere exclusively on Prime Video on November 11, 2026.

Where does Season 3 fit in the story?
The third season jumps forward several years from the events of Season 2. Amazon’s expanded synopsis places the story five years after the fall of Eregion, while its shorter description identifies the period as the height of the War of the Elves and Sauron.

Sauron’s forces have spread across Middle-earth. The principal remaining pockets of resistance include Khazad-dûm, Lindon, and Rivendell, while Sauron operates from the newly completed Barad-dûr. 3. The story is entering a decisive Second Age phase

A useful Second Age reading companion
If Season 3’s jump into the War of the Elves and Sauron has you looking for more Second Age context, The Fall of Númenor is the most relevant Tolkien reading companion. This physical HarperCollins volume gathers Second Age material involving Númenor, Sauron’s rise, the forging of the Rings of Power, and the Last Alliance.
It is important to understand what the book is—and is not. The Fall of Númenor is not a Season 3 novelization, an official television guide, or an exact source text for every event in Amazon’s adaptation. The series draws on Tolkien’s Second Age material but develops its own adaptation.
