The Porsche nicknamed Tina from Gone in 60 Seconds was reported for sale in June 2022 at an asking price of $65,900. It was not an unmodified factory 996: the film’s stunt car used a 1978 Porsche 911 chassis with a custom 996-style composite body. The 2022 listing is historical, and its current availability is not established.

Was the Porsche from Gone in 60 Seconds really a 996?

Not in the sense of being a standard production 996. Tina is the nickname for the Porsche featured in the film’s opening theft sequence. Its body was made to resemble the then-new 996-generation 911, but the stunt vehicle underneath was a different car.

Barrett-Jackson’s 2012 auction record describes Tina as a 1978 Porsche 911 whose original body was stripped and replaced with a handcrafted 1999 996-style composite-fiberglass body. The record says SPS Porsche Builders were hired to build it and notes that the car performed stunt work, including the dealership-window crash. TopSpeed’s 2022 account calls the donor a 1978 Porsche 930; Barrett-Jackson describes it more generally as a 1978 911. The sources do not resolve that difference, so the safest description is a 1978 911 chassis with a custom 996-style body. Barrett-Jackson’s Tina lot record and TopSpeed’s 2022 report document the build.

How much was Tina listed for, and is it still for sale?

TopSpeed reported on June 21, 2022, that a private seller in Jackson, Mississippi, had listed Tina on ClassicCars.com for $65,900. That was the reported asking price at that time, not a confirmed sale price or a current valuation. The available records do not establish whether that listing remains active, whether the car later sold privately, who owns it now, or what it might be worth today.

What happened to Tina after the film?

Barrett-Jackson’s archive records Tina as a sold lot at its Scottsdale 2012 auction. The archive identifies the vehicle as titled as a 1978 Porsche and says it was sold as-is as a prop. It does not disclose a sale price in the accessible record.

The auction record also makes clear that the sale did not transfer rights or interests in the film, film merchandise, or reproduction or commercial use. Owning the car therefore did not mean owning the right to license or commercially reproduce its connection to Gone in 60 Seconds.

Why does the 996 matter to the story?

The 996 was a major change in the 911 line, helping make its shape recognizable as a contemporary sports car in the 2000 film. Care of Carl’s March 29, 2025 feature dates the generation’s debut to the 1997 Frankfurt Motor Show and describes the shift from air cooling to water cooling. It gives the early 3.4-litre flat-six configuration an output of 300 horsepower and reports more than 175,000 996 units sold between 1997 and 2005. Those are figures reported by Care of Carl, rather than independently verified production totals here. Care of Carl’s 996 feature provides that model context.

Tina’s appeal is distinct from the 996’s broader place in Porsche history: it is a one-off movie stunt build that combined an older chassis with a body designed to look like the newer generation.
