A September 2026 retrospective reports that Farrah Abraham’s daughter Sophia turned 17 in February 2026 and Amber Portwood and Gary Shirley’s daughter Leah turned 17 in November 2025. Maci Bookout’s son Bentley is now a high-school senior. The label “original” matters here: these children belong to the first 16 and Pregnant cohort featured on Teen Mom, not the separate cast cohort introduced by Teen Mom 2.
Who counts as an original Teen Mom child?
Teen Mom grew out of MTV’s 16 and Pregnant. TV Insider describes the first season of Teen Mom as following four of that show’s season-one participants and treats the second season as the start of a distinct series, Teen Mom 2. That distinction keeps “original” from becoming a catch-all for every family featured across the franchise. TV Insider’s September 9, 2026 retrospective discusses children from both series, but the later show’s cast is not part of the original cohort described here.

MTV’s official Teen Mom page also presents the franchise as beginning with 16 and Pregnant. The show follows real families over time, which makes a milestone like turning 16 a retrospective checkpoint rather than a present-day status for the children now discussed.
What happened to the 16th-birthday milestone?
The age-16 framing is now historical. TV Insider reported in September 2026 that Sophia Abraham had turned 17 in February 2026 and Leah Shirley had turned 17 in November 2025. The same retrospective says Bentley Edwards, Maci Bookout’s son, is in his senior year of high school. Those details show how far the original children have moved beyond the age around which the franchise first introduced their families.

The dates above are the milestones reported in that retrospective, not a complete birthday calendar for every child in the first Teen Mom cohort. The article does not establish primary birth records for all of them, so it would be misleading to present an exhaustive timeline or attach unverified dates to other children.
