That endpoint matters because it is more precise than saying the season will adapt “all of East Blue.” The official description does not make that broader claim. Readers should therefore understand the announced scope as the opening portion of the saga, ending around Sanji’s introduction—not as a confirmed adaptation of every East Blue storyline.
For anyone who wants to revisit the source before the remake arrives, the One Piece manga box set is the most directly relevant place to start. The English-language VIZ Box Set 1 contains volumes 1 through 23, covering the opening East Blue material and continuing into Baroque Works. Availability and editions can vary by region.
What the seven-episode format suggests
The announced numbers provide the clearest indication yet of how this adaptation may differ from the long-running television anime. Approximately 50 chapters are being organized into seven episodes with a combined runtime of about five hours.

This is a new anime adaptation—not a remaster
THE ONE PIECE should not be confused with a remastered or recut version of Toei Animation’s long-running television series. It is a new animated retelling based directly on Oda’s original manga, with WIT STUDIO handling production.
The distinction is also important because Netflix has another separate ONE PIECE adaptation: its live-action series. The WIT STUDIO project is animated, begins again with chapter one, and is not “One Piece Season 2” of the live-action show.
A useful shorthand is to call THE ONE PIECE a “remake,” but “new anime adaptation” is the more exact description. The official material does not describe it as a replacement for Toei’s series, a visual remaster, or a revised cut of existing episodes.
The confirmed creative team
The official announcement lists several prominent members of the production team:
- Masashi Koizuka as director;
- Hideaki Abe as assistant director;
- Taku Kishimoto as series composer; and
- Kyoji Asano and Takatoshi Honda as character designers and chief animation directors.
WIT STUDIO is producing the series from Oda’s manga, which was serialized by Shueisha in Weekly Shonen Jump. Concept art was released alongside the February 2027 announcement, offering an early look at the project’s visual development.

It is also too early to promise a fixed worldwide release pattern beyond the stated Netflix distribution plan. “Worldwide on Netflix” describes the announced distribution, but it should not be expanded into a guarantee that every region will receive identical timing or catalog treatment without a territory-specific confirmation.
How THE ONE PIECE fits alongside the existing franchise
Fans will soon have three distinct versions of the story to keep separate:
- THE ONE PIECE: the new WIT STUDIO animated adaptation beginning from the manga’s opening chapters.
- Toei Animation’s television anime: the established long-running animated adaptation.
- Netflix’s live-action ONE PIECE: a separate live-action interpretation of the franchise.
The new project does not erase the older anime, and its announcement does not establish that it will replace Toei’s adaptation. Instead, it gives new and returning viewers another route into Oda’s story—one designed around a fresh production and a more compact first-season structure.
What fans can reasonably expect next
The next meaningful announcements are likely to clarify details that the current update leaves open: the precise February date, additional cast information, episode-specific runtimes, and more footage or promotional material. Information about a second season should not be inferred from the seven-episode first-season plan.
