Netflix’s THE ONE PIECE is a new anime adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s manga, not a continuation of Toei Animation’s long-running television series or Netflix’s live-action show. Netflix currently lists a February 2027 premiere, with all seven Season 1 episodes arriving together.
What the first look reveals
Netflix’s August 21, 2026 explainer presents official teaser and image materials previewing the remake’s East Blue adventure. The images include Luffy at sea and in Windmill Village with Shanks, Benn Beckman and Makino. They offer an initial view of the new adaptation, rather than a full account of its scenes or visual approach. Netflix Tudum’s first-look explainer collects the images and project details.
When does THE ONE PIECE come out?
Netflix’s current listing gives THE ONE PIECE a February 2027 premiere window, but does not provide an exact day. The platform says all seven episodes of Season 1 will be released at once, with a combined runtime of around 300 minutes. These are the release details currently listed by Netflix Media Center.
Where the remake begins and how much it covers
The adaptation starts with Chapter 1 of the manga in the East Blue saga. Netflix says Season 1 covers approximately the first 50 chapters and leads up to Luffy encountering Sanji at the floating restaurant Baratie. That gives viewers a defined starting point and stated endpoint without implying that the season adapts the entire saga.

Who is working on the remake?
Netflix’s Media Center credits WIT Studio as the animation studio and lists the following creative team:
- Director: Masashi Koizuka
- Assistant director: Hideaki Abe
- Series composition: Taku Kishimoto
- Character design and chief animation directors: Kyoji Asano and Takatoshi Honda
- Creature design and image boards: Yasuhiro Kajino
- Prop design: Eri Taguchi
- Action animators: Ken Imaizumi and Shuhei Fukuda
- Art director: Tomonori Kuroda
- Animation producer: Ryoma Kawamura
The animation team is part of a production committee that Netflix’s 2023 announcement said includes representatives from Shueisha, Fuji Television Network and Toei Animation. Netflix also notes that Toei Animation has produced the existing television anime since 1999. The original announcement identifies THE ONE PIECE as a separate project.

How this differs from the other One Piece adaptations
THE ONE PIECE is a new animated adaptation of the manga, beginning again at Chapter 1. It is distinct from the long-running Toei television anime and from Netflix’s live-action One Piece series. The confirmed information establishes its starting point and Season 1 endpoint; it does not establish broader claims about changes in pacing, content or faithfulness to the manga.

Netflix Tudum reported that the manga had sold more than 600 million copies globally as of March 2026; the series was first published in 1997. The sales figure is Netflix’s reported figure, not a direct statement from Shueisha in the sources cited here. Netflix Tudum gives the dated figure in its project explainer.
