Spoilers ahead for Season 2, Episode 7 of FX’s The Old Man. In “XIV,” Dan Chase surrenders to Pavlovich hoping to get the antidote to the poison in his system. The bargain collapses when Pavlovich hears that Hamzad’s mineral deposit has been attacked, while Zoe fights for protection at a police station. The final reveal: Emily, whom Chase believed dead, is alive and leading the force at the site.
Why does Chase surrender to Pavlovich?
Chase is in Pavlovich’s custody after surrendering, and the poison is worsening. As it affects his brain, he sees hallucinations of Emily—also known as Parwana. He tries to negotiate: in exchange for the antidote, money, and a chance to recover Emily’s body, he offers information and a promise that he will not retaliate.
Chase’s anger is real, but so is his promise to Zoe. He tells Pavlovich he intends to keep it and return alive. For a moment, Pavlovich seems willing to honor the arrangement: he lets Chase go and prepares the antidote.
What is Zoe asking the police for?
Zoe goes to a police station and says she witnessed Nina Kruger’s murder. She asks officers to contact the U.S. Embassy or CIA and offers to identify the person who killed Bote. In return, she wants immunity. Pavlovich’s agent is waiting outside, leaving her with little time to secure protection.
