What is the latest news about the film?
Opening-weekend figures
The Associated Press reported an estimated $264.1 million global opening in July 2026: $124.5 million domestic and $139.6 million overseas. The same report gave opening-weekend IMAX figures of $29.6 million domestic and $51.8 million worldwide. Those are opening-weekend numbers, not current grosses. Nolan told the AP that adapting the story carries “the hopes and dreams of people for epic movies everywhere,” and that audiences want “a strong and sincere interpretation” of a beloved story and its characters.

September box-office update
NBCUniversal’s September 12, 2026 release has inconsistent worldwide totals: its headline says the film exceeded $1.677 billion, while its body gives $1.685 billion, alongside $601.2 million domestic and $1.083 billion international. Treat either figure as a dated studio-reported total, not an uncontested current figure. In the same release, NBCUniversal chair Donna Langley called the film “one of the most ambitious and brilliantly executed films in cinematic history” and “a generational event that galvanizes moviegoing itself.”
Production and soundtrack
Universal says the film was shot entirely with IMAX film cameras. Its production feature describes filming in Morocco, Greece, Italy, Iceland, Scotland and other locations, and presents IMAX, IMAX 70mm, 35mm, Dolby Cinema and other premium large formats as theatrical options. Which formats are available depends on the local cinema; compare the screen and sound format, showtime and ticket price when choosing a screening. The feature also identifies Ludwig Göransson as composer and says the soundtrack is available to preorder on vinyl and CD.
